Smallville star Kristin Kreuk is back at the CW in one of the most talked-about roles this pilot season: the female lead in the CW’s drama pilot Beauty And The Beast. Loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Linda Hamilton, CW’s Beauty And The Beast is described as a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist.
It centers on Catherine (Kreuk), a tough-minded NYPD homicide detective haunted by witnessing her mother’s murder nine years ago and the killers’ quick demise at the hands of a Beast. After years of searching, Catherine finally finds the Beast, Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a military experiment that went disastrously wrong, and becomes the protector of his secret life as a superhero. Gary Fleder is directing the pilot, written by Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper. Levin and Cooper are executive producing with the creator of the original series, Ron Koslow, the original series’ producers Paul Junger Witt & C. Anthony Thomas, as well as Bill Haber. Canadian-born Kreuk, who played Lana Lang on the young Superman series Smallville, fielded interest from multiple pilots this season, including ABC’s Beauty And The Beast pilot executive produced by Fleder. Her post-Smallville series credits include an arc on Chuck. Kreuk is repped by Gersh and her longtime Canadian agent Russ Mortensen.

Kristin is great!

The CW is stupid. Kristin Kreuk has been proven that she cannot bring in an audience after the bomb of Street Fighter. They just seriously lowered the chances of this show succeeding.
The one’s who think Kristin is something special are the same one’s who thought the women of the original Beverly Hills 90210 were going to become super-stars. They had a tiny and I mean tiny bit of charisma, but nothing at the A-List star level.
Linda Hamilton is just a different league of serious actor. Hamilton stole the show from Arnold “Ruled the 80′s making 20 mil a movie” Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2. There are some truly mindless people who comment on here.
Sarah Connor oh, I mean Linda Hamilton was more than just a pretty face! Who are they going to cast as the Beast in this remake: Justin Bieber.
Kristin has a huge fanbase, this might be good for CW thatthey`ll finally get a hit show for the network
Wow…talk about uninspired casting. Kristin hasn’t been able to launch her career after her “Smallville” buzz of a decade ago. Based on “Ringer”s ratings you’d think that they’d not want to pick a familiar face with a past successful series and based on ‘Hart of Dixie’s ratings you’d think they want to make better casting choices (because Bilson as a doctor is still a joke…love her, hate the miscast)
I’ll check out the pilot and hope for the best.
Tom Welling go get the role of Vincent!!
I don’t really care who’s cast -The script is AWFUL! -They should stop promoting this as a reboot -It’s nothing like the original series
wooow! Kristin is an amazing lady and a very talented actress!!
ABC’s Beauty & The Beast was also interested in hiring her, I wish Kristin would have gone with ABC instead; a more bigger network. Regardless, it’s good to see KK back on TV.
Me too. The thing is that Kristin is really delightful. When people get exposed to her, they fall in love with her, as happened when she appeared on Chuck. A wider audience getting exposed to her would result in lots of new fans. The CW’s audience is so tiny, even for hit shows, that not of a lot of new people will be exposed to Kristin. Even if the ABC show didn’t last on the air long, millions of new fans would be made, verses the thousands of new fans she would pick up on the CW.
Regardless of whether she’s a good actress or not, we just can’t compare this role with the original Catherine, since the only thing the CW story has in common with the 80s Beauty and the Beast is the title and the lead characters’ names.
Homicide cop…how lame! It’s going to be the case-solving with superhero help of the week. They seem to be focusing on one of the very things that killed the show. Contrary to popular misperceptions of “cursory episode glancers” (many of whom have written articles about this reboot BTW), in the original, only very few of the episodes, mainly in the first part of season 1, were related to Catherine’s job.
Kristin has a huge following that are still sticking by her very strongly after Smallville, the series will get the support it needs by Kristin fans and then by whoever else may be interested in the series for the idea of it! Good choice!
I wonder if the new Beast on the CW’s network will look anything like the Humanoid Lion looking beast that was played by Ron Pearlman.
Oh and I will definitely be checking out this show just to see my favorite tv actress the hot and super uber-gorgeous Kristin Kreuk.
tom welling
From the pilot script I’ve read this reboot is definitely not like the original -It should not have been promoted as such -While it is a beauty & beast type themed show, they shouldn’t have named the main characters Catherine & Vincent -I had high hopes for a B&B remake, but I wanted it to be more like the original with all the romance & fantasy -I see none of that in this reboot, especially with the character of Vincent, who was once a unique, mysterious being with a gentle soul -Now he’ll be a genetically altered hairy human super soldier? -I honestly thought the script was a joke & not authentic -I am truly disappointed that it was true –(Btw, many new fans have discovered the series through the DVD’s)
Awesome! Can’t wait check out the show. She was great on Smallville
I hope it is good. I might have checked it out without Kristin, but now I SURELY will! I love Kristin Kreuk’s acting and -other than Smallville- I haven’t had too much interest in her other endeavors. This one I will definitely watch.
Am also a big fan of superman!!!
Show looks good big fan of kristin
I’ve always been a big Superman fan, too, including the ‘Lois & Clark’ tv series. And I think Tom Welling a VERY good actor, wide range of emotions in Smallville and very believable. Loved watching him on Smallville & I think he’s very talented! Looking forward to seeing Kristin on TV again & I hope the BB series is good!
