Mark Piznarski is set to direct the CW pilot The Sellection, the Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain-written adaptation of the forthcoming series of books by Kiera Cass set 300 years in the future, which centers on a poor young woman who is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads. WME-repped Piznarski directed the pilots for 4 series currently on the air, the CW’s Gossip Girl and 90210, USA’s In Plain Sight and ABC Family’s The Lying Game. His pilot directing credots also include cult favorite Everwood and Veronica Mars.
Director: Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend), who made his TV debut directing the pilot of Michael Green’s NBC series Kings, is set to helm Green’s latest project, ABC drama pilot Gotham, about a female cop who, after pursuing a seemingly unsolvable case, discovers a magical world that exists within New York City.
Yves Simoneau, who directed the pilot for V, has signed on to direct another drama pilot for the network, Beauty And The Beast, a Jon Steinberg-written reimagening of the classic fairytale.
Craig Gillespie (Fright Night, Lars And The Real Girl) is on board to direct and executive produce the CBS pilot Trooper, an Aron Eli Coleite-written, Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama about a common-sense mother-turned-New York state trooper. The previous 2 pilots Gillespie directed, Showtime’s United States Of Tara and ABC’s My Generation, both went to series. In other pilot directing news, Adam Bernstein is attached to Fox’s cast-contingent comedy pilot Must Hire, and Brad Anderson will direct NBC’s drama pilot Midnight Sun.
