It’s part of Michael Bay’s new 2-picture deal with Paramount just announced to include Pain And Gain and of course Transformers 4. I understand that all the talent are deferring their compensation in return for big back ends from Paramount: Michael Bay, Mark Wahlberg, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. It’s to keep Pain And Gain at the sure-thing $25 million budget level. Interesting, because both Wahlberg and Johnson are coming off hit 2012 movies (Contraband and Journey 2, respectively) so could have asked for a sky-high salary this time around — and didn’t. The film will shoot in Miami and production starts this April.
Based on a true story, Pain And Gain follows a group of bodybuilders who engaged in a campaign of kidnapping, extortion and murder in Florida first told in an article from the Miami New Times. The movie’s producers include Bay, Donald De Line, and Ian Bryce. “Michael has been working on Pain And Gain for a number of years but has patiently waited for the perfect casting to trigger a start,” Adam Goodman, President of Paramount’s Film Group, said in tonight’s press release. “Clearly his patience has paid off as we
couldn’t be more excited about this combo. His passion for this project is just awesome.”

That’s probably because this is the most misguided movie idea of all time. I can’t wait to see tone deaf aspergers Michael Bay tackle a really depressing story with random improv based riffs in a high contrast Company 3 sheen.
well — your comments are really funny (the Company 3 reference was a nice touch)…but I have to disagree. Bay will approach this in Bad Boys mode, to which I say….bring it on.
I’ve like just about everything Mark Wahlberg has been in. Even the remake for Planet of the Apes. And I’m not much for remakes.
The Contraband trailer looks good too.
Your definition and my definition of ‘hit movie’ is vastly different.
This will be their biggest payday..They will split
1/3 of the first dollar gross
I’m sorry. These guys are playing body builders who kidnap and abuse people? Sounds really appealing.
Goodman, tasteless taste..Paramount should go back to the previous generation.
The lead detective’s line in the film will definitely be this “These guys are involved in everything. Kidnapping, extortion, murder, you name it.”
No matter what you think about the potential of Pain & Gain, it’s sad that Bay had to make 3 movies with a combined $2.7 billion gross before Paramount would return the favor and greenlight it. Cheapo much?
The only “awesome passion” involved here is for Paramount to get another billion-dollar 3D Transformers monstrosity into production as quickly as possible. I’m sure with the release date set and no clue as to what the story will be, this’ll be yet another fine script in the series.
I wonder what Bay will think about TF4 once Par inevitably mucks up the advertising for P&G.
I personally think this will be a badass movie, just my opinion so don’t get your panties in a bunch about it.
I’m excited to see this as I know Bay’s wanted to make this film for a very long time. He’s mentioned in the past he’s a big Cohen Bros fan and this looks like he’s defiantly taking the approach of this film as a twisted comedy.
After the movie released , there will be few comments like it might have bad influence on bodybuilders, it may lead to many crime activity for us:D vut still ? am excited to watch this movie ,we can control ourselves which is one of the special abilty that is learned by body bulding
