I can confirm that Paramount and Michael Bay are only going to make one movie at a time: Transformers 4. And not the back-to-back Transformers 4 and 5 which Hasbro top executive Brian Goldner said was a real possibility in a Wall Street earnings call last financial quarter. Bay is starting production on Pain And Gain in April with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for Paramount. That’s part of his 2-picture deal with the studio announced tonight saying Bay is officially committed next to the Transformers franchise fourquel for June 27, 2014. I’m told Bay is meeting with executive producer Steven Spielberg now to flush out ideas while the studio is in the process of hiring a writer. MichaelBay.com promises that the next installment ”will bring audiences a new take on the Transformers franchise” based on the Hasbro toyline.
So why did Paramount make this stealth Michael Bay-Transformers 4 and 2-picture deal announcement at 7:15 PM Los Angeles time? I’ve learned it’s because Lorenzo di Bonaventura has a big mouth. One of the producers along with Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Ian Bryce, Di Bonaventura today spilled the beans without warning anybody. In fact the studio was still polishing its press statement for tomorrow.
The result is that Paramount is furious at di Bonaventura, and Michael Bay “went crazy” on him as well, an insider tells me. “Lorenzo was at a toy fair and someone sticks a camera in his face. So Lorenzo goes on this 60-second tirade speaking on behalf of everyone — the studio, Michael Bay — and it’s inappropriate.” The result is that MTV got a nice video exclusive of Di Bonaventura saying Bay will direct the next Transformers and calling it a “reboot” which is kind of odd but also intriguing.
Anyway the producer is in the dog house at Paramount (just like he put himself in the dog house at Warner Bros for shooting off his mouth that time, too). I can’t wait to see how Paramount punishes him. Maybe by borrowing a page from former Paramount chief Michael Eisner who one day got mad at Larry Gordon and threw him off the lot by emptying the producer’s offices onto the sidewalks. ”The locks haven’t been changed on Lorenzo’s offices — yet…” a studio bigwig tells me.
Here’s the MTV interview with do Bonaventura:

Id say this movie did pretty well. The total gross dose not factor in DVD sales either. Im laughing at all you haters that said this movie would flop. I love all the Transformers movie. Especially Dark of the moon. Thanks for listening to the fans and having alot more robot action. I saw it 6 times in iMax. I actually cried when IronHide was murdered by Sentinel Prime thats how much i really love theses movies. I am a true fan for life. Keep up the awesome movie making. R.I.P. Ironhide. Gone but not forgotten. You will be missed.
The previous movies left so many unanswered questions and unexplored territory – thank God for this completely necessary chapter in the Transformers story!
bring back megan fox!
I don’t believe i’m typing this but: I Agree.
Agree. Have Megan Fox in next movie please.
I swear y would u want Megan fox when she technically quit she is what they call up rite selfish duh
It seems after Spider-Man, every time you make three movies, you do a “reboot” of some sort.
I’m calling it first! Trans4mers!
Then what smarty pants? Trans5ormers
More like Tran5former5…
Tran5formers.. or that would be 55!
Seems legit.
While I hate Bay’s films, this is a nice example of real viral marketing. When the news hit, it did indeed go viral. Paramount doesn’t need to pay people to polish & release an official statement – just have somebody speak on the record and the world will do the rest of the work if they care.
Lorenzo sees himself as the true auteur of Transformers. He believes it’s his vision and talent that makes the movies such hits. Michael Bay might be the director but Lorenzo is the producer. Without Lorenzo there wouldn’t be any Transformers franchise at all. This is what Lorenzo believes. His ego is bigger than the biggest Transformer autobot. It’s sad to see him like this he was once an intellectual guy an Ivy League professor who somehow wound up in showbiz now he’s nothing but G.I. Joe and Transformers. His punishment should be to forcibly remove him from Transformers 4 he should have nothing to do with the movie.
There wouldn’t be any Transformers without producer Don Murphy. He was the one who had the idea to get the movie rights to the property over a decade ago.
Cannot wait. Bay is a true movie maker, and all the cynical haters can just whine and be jealous. Transformers is an awesome franchise, and I can’t wait for the 4th one as well as Pain and Gain.
“Bay is a true movie maker…” Truer words have never been spoken. I love you, Shaun. Never change.
That’s like saying, “Chevy is a real car maker” or “Little Caesars is a real pizza maker”. It’s true, but I think I’ll take the Lexus and a slice of Chicago deep-dish over Michael Bay.
Bay makes some the best “Spectacle & Awe” in Hollywood. He sells tickets, unfortunately thats all that matters to some these days but it works. He has found his nitch and it has made him incredibly wealthy, good for him.
That is 2 1/2 years from now. God things could be so different. Iran could actually have the bomb. Maybe the Transformers become Jewish and squash the nukes in their bunkers. Or perhaps they become members of the Tea Party and wipe out all the democrats. All I know, I dont care. I liked the first, saw that done that..over. But the good thing and this is the best thing…alot of people will be working. There will be more great stories of how crazy and mean Bay is on the set.But maybe that will all change in 2 years. The Tranformers become Beverly Hills psychiatrist and nail him to the couch.
bettheduck
Why would Michael Bay want to spend more of his life directing TRANSFORMERS movies? What could he possibly have left to prove with this mega-successful franchise? And considering every Michael Bay film is unmistakably a Michael Bay film, why would Paramount want him for a reboot?
I imagine Bay is doing it because Paramount offered him somewhere in the range of $50-100 million to do it. If it even comes close to the gross of the third film I imagine that’s exactly what he’ll get.
cuz they all make piles and piles of money. it wouldn’t be a bad life to be a very rich powerful transformer movie director .
Maybe this will be a “passing the torch” sequel like Spy Kids 4?
Its because he gets money out of it, duh
How in the world is this a reboot if its the same director and the last one was the biggest transformers ever?
I thought they already made transformers 4…its called battleship
RIGHT???? I’m glad I wasn’t the only one thinking it!
The world got a little worse today with this news
how did it get worse.you shouldnt even be commenting then if you think like that.
Simmer down fanboy.
Not only will there be jobs in Los Angeles because of this, there will be jobs all over the U.S.A., and people from overseas will send us their dollars. No one is being forced to buy a ticket, or even watch the trailer, so where’s the bad?
No, that day will be when Disney greenlights Pirates 5!
The firstTransformers had a human story about family The Witwicky’s were great. Anyone could relate to the parents who are frankly the best part of the franchise. this would be really stupid to make without Shia and the family. watching robots fight is not a story. A prequel is really a dumb idea and a big mistake. The fist movie was still the best. The third needed more from the first. the family is now watching their son in the world as a young man. Shia makes these movies work.
Agreed, MLS. Whenever the first Transformers is on t.v., I find myself watching it because of the wonderful performances of the parents and the fear and intensity displayed by Shia LaBeouf. What grabbed me about that first movie was the people, not the robots. All of the movies have extended robot fight scenes that become dull quickly. I’ll see this new one on Netflix purely out of curiosity.
I have a theory that Mark Vahradian is a highlander. Like in that movie, Highlander.
Thoughts?
At first I thought you meant he was like a Toyota SUV, boxy and bland, but now I get it.
They better use time-travel paradoxes and wipe out Transformers3 completely. Transformers3 had a potentially good plot but they ruined it completely.
No more ugly face top-models on Transformers4, please!
The smartest move would be wiping out Transformers3 with time-travel, bringing back Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes and continue the story from where either the 1st or 2nd movie finished. Or they might merge with the 1st movie, changing what happened.. that would be a smart way of making everything new re-using most loved characters.
And Paramount and Bay, please pay ILM to do CGI as good as the first two movies or the upcoming Battleship movie. Transformers3 CGI was the worst of the franchise, indeed, so many mistakes and unpolished scenes.
They’re planning to use *ideas* in this movie? That would be a real reboot.
I would rather sit through six more Transformers sequels than one more viewing of The Tree of Life
For a second I thought the Rock was going to be in Transformers 4
Definitely. She is better suited for Sam than the blonde. Was disappointed in the last female character!
You’ve got to be kidding, Steve. Her noxious attitude offscreen makes her completely unattractive – as does her remarks about us folks out here in the Midwest. I believe she also made some anti-Semite comments on-set that peeved some people and resulted in her dismissal. Rosie is delightful! I hope she returns! Classy and sweet. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Still nonsense bashing against Megan Fox for no reason. Maybe you should check what actors and actresses and directors tell the press and on shows more, you would want to ban 99% of them. LaBeouf and Bay and Spielberg included.
Get rid of the woman replacing Megan fox she was awful
Paramount found out what Warners found out and so will the “next” place….Lorenzo is a bad guy.
It think either candidate for president could assure their election if they would pledge to the American people immediate federal legislation to prohibit Michael Bay from “designing, assembling, creating, or in any way particpating in the production of motion pictures.”
Will absolutely do anything to participate in the making of this film!!
