Jeez, here’s yet another Obama White House-NBC collaboration. (It’s as nauseating as Mitt Romney-Fox.) In the latest, Jimmy Fallon takes on Michelle Obama in a fitness competition as part of the First Lady’s ‘Let’s Move!’ initiative:
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

This is absolutely harmless and not political at all.
Judging by the number of overweight citizens in this country I think NBC should shill their butts off.
I get in order to keep face with your mostly liberal audience you have to say that ‘same as Mitt Romney and Fox’ but face it – you do not see Sean Hannity horsing around with Romney. What you saw on Fox was Bret Baer grilling Romney so hard that Romney started to lose it.
The more i hear people bash Fox the more i think they never watch it – just the other night both Bill OReilly and Bernard Goldberg stood up for Ellen DeGeneres in the JC Penny flap and Bill O lit into a woman from some Christian woman group. You would never see the opposite happen on MSNBC.
I actually ddidnt mind the Fallon bit – it could be taken either way. He was giving exposure to the First Ladys initiative or he was making fun of it. (and i think the First Lady looks like a pretty good sport).
Good points re Fox but I would point out that in the case of Bret Baier he (IMO) is very nearly their one serious on air pro.
it’s not shilling. fallon was just doing a bit. he’s not a journalist. was ellen doing push-ups with michelle o shilling?
He’s a late night comic; you don’t think he’d head to the White house no matter who was inside? I seem to recall Bush II showing up on Letterman, and James Brown was sitting in with the band that night. Does that mean Dave & James were shilling for the Bush White House?
The late night folks will take a President, First Lady, or White House access any chance they can. That doesn’t mean they’re shills. It’s all about ratings. They would book Satan if they could.
Not so sure it’s such a bad thing to talk about fitness for kids. Aside from Michelle Obama, who else is talking about keeping kids fit? It’s not like Arnold is active in that anymore.
Eh? ‘Let’s Move’ is nonpartisan.
Is it really “shilling” for them? President and First Lady Obama are interesting guests, who come to “play ball” as they say in the interview world.
NBC has Chuck Todd and other correspondents to ask the hard questions, Jimmy Fallon is for the fun stuff. If the Obamas were boring or cantankerous, they wouldn’t appear often regardless of their politics.
Really? A one time guest shot is ‘shilling’ (let me point out that Michelle Obama IS the First Lady after all and has a legitimate right to back and promote any ‘feel good’ measure she’d like) is a comparable to FOX NEWS (essentially a 24/7 GOP infomercial)? Got it. Fair and balanced all the way Deadline.
Romney and Fox are not and have never been on the best of terms. He avoided them (and all the other news outlets) for two years. And when he couldn’t avoid them any longer, he went on Fox and was promptly given a rough time by Chris Wallace and Bret Baier. All of this proves that Fox is confused as to whom they should “endorse.” Fox’s base hates Romney b/c they see him as a closet moderate. But Fox knows that Gingrich, Santorum, Paul, et al, can’t beat Obama. It’s kind of nice to see Fox struggling with who to back for the nomination. Yes, NBC is in the can for Obama and I say this as a Democrat. But to imply that it’s the same as Romney being in the can for Romney is incorrect.
A young, vibrant First Lady whose hair actually moves. Love her and her campaign for military families and children’s health issues.
Comparing a few profiles of our First Lady (which every administration gets) to hourly hawking of Romney on Fox is a comparison only worthy on Fox. Just calling ‘em as I see ‘em.
She did push ups with Ellen, she was on Leno. Why is Fallon suddenly nauseating shilling? And as far as the Romney comparison, that’s blatant political pandering, this is promoting healthy living with no agenda other than helping future voters keep from getting so fat they can’t fit in the polling booth.
Fox has nothing on NBC when it comes to shilling for a candidate. Christ… NBC is over the top with it. Tug of war in the white house. Seriously, have they no shame… NBC or Obama. I am not an american, but the decorum is just horrible. You Yanks celebrate idiocy. Fallon is funny though.
Not that I’d expect someone on this site to watch Fox News, but Romney doesn’t get an easy time from Fox. Most of the right wing pundits they have on don’t care for Romney, so your statement is totally inaccurate Nikki. Nobody gets as cozy with ANY candidate as NBC has with Obama over the last 4 years, not even close.
Strange how there’s barely even a pretense of objectivity anymore. Wonder how NBC is planning to respond to charges that they might be (gasp!) partisan.
I wonder if they care.
The libs should be happy that their efforts to enforce the Fairness Doctrine were unsuccessful. Otherwise, this kind of promotion at best wouldn’t be allowed, at worst would require SNL to have a cute sketch featuring Mitt.
She’s the First Lady, like it or not.
So cynical, Nikke et al. Working with the current president to get out the message on childhood obesity . The country would be much healthier in every way if people like you all could rally behind issues that were widely important without being so obsessively partisan.
What message? You think kids are going to put down the twinkies because the president’s wife was doing jumping jacks on the white house lawn? We don’t need the Obama’s to figure out kids spend more time in front of the tv and computer these days than they should.
Kind of ironic that you have to watch tv or go on the computer to get the message that you shouldn’t watch tv or spend so much time on the computer.
How cool is Michelle? There’s certainly nothing wrong with supporting such a worthwhile initiative, regardless of what network. Unfortunately, our nation is so jaded and arbtrary, we have to criticize something that is ultimately good for us because of political alignments (or worse). I think it’s encouraging that finally there is an attempt to make our youth healthy as opposed to encouraging plastic surgery, self-starvation and other quick fixes for overall mental health.
The liberal media has fallen to the depths of credibility and they seem to be the last ones to recognize it.
The empirical evidence of the failure of the “Democrat/Chicago Way” doesn’t seem to faze them, they just keep plugging away
*This* is nauseating to you? This you conflate with Fox and Mitt Romney? Is any sign of respect for this administration to be taken as partisan? Ugh.
Agreed. Nobody attacked Laura Bush when she was promoting non-political initiatives.
I thought it was hilarious!
This is why America is going down the tubes. The first lady is spreading a message that we should get off our collective fat asses and gets some fucking exercise and you want to equate it to Romney’s run for office?
Not everything is equivalent. Not everything is political. Not everything has to be a fight, you petty, hate filled partisan douchefaces.
FWIW, I am a democrat and supported Laura Bush’s literacy initiatives. Promoting the idea of healthy kids that can read should be above political sniping.
And Laura Bush also went on shows like Jay Leno’s while her husband was President. Bush’s daughters, as well. No big deal
Are you serious, Nikki? The airwaves belong to the public, and this was done to promote a public initiative. All of the networks should do more stuff like this.
Nothing is more partisan than wanting people to live healthy lives.
