Here we go again — the Parents Television Council, which waged a campaign against MTV’s racy drama Skins last year, has another new MTV scripted series in its cross hairs, comedy I Just Want My Pants Back. “While the show is only rated TV-14, content has already included the prelude to a sexual foursome and a woman asking a man to insert his finger into her rectum during intercourse,” the PTC noted. Like it did with Skins, the PTC is reaching out to Pants‘ sponsors, including Dr. Pepper, T-Mobile and Toyota, asking them not to support the new show over its risque content. “Once again MTV is taking HBO-style content and marketing it to a Nickelodeon-age audience,” PTC president Tim Winter said. PTC has also contacted the TV Parental Guidelines Monitoring Board, objecting to its granting Pants a TV-14 rating. But while Skins aired at 10 PM, Pants is scheduled at 11 PM and as comedy, most of its sexual content is for humorous effect. (As one commenter pointed out, MTV rebroadcasts Pants during the day, something it didn’t do with Skins, but the version that airs before 11 PM is edited, with the inappropriate content taken out.) Plus, Skins’ most vulnerable spot was the fact that some actors involved in sex scenes were underage. The youngest actor on Pants is 25-year-old. Despite PTC’s campaign against Skins, MTV stuck with the show throughout its freshman run but canceled it weeks later. Pants, which centers on a twenty-something guy trying to juggle sex, love, career and friendship out of college, had its official premiere on Feb. 2 with 1.7 million viewers, in line with recent MTV comedy hit Awkward (also 1.7 at 11 PM). It grew in Week 2 to 1.9 million.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

I’m no prude, and I watched and enjoyed the show (for the most part), but yeah it’s pretty damn racy and I noticed that my DVR recorded it during airings in the early afternoon. MTV should be holding off all airings until later in the evening. It’s like they’re trying to market the show to young twenty-somethings, but in reality they’re showing it to 13, 14, and 15 year olds and promoting casual sex.
*Sounds like Pants is a hit.*

Isn’t there anyone this group won’t go after!?!?PTC=PEOPLE THAT CENSOR. One of the things I have always found interesting about these groups is how they say this or that program is offensive-which makes me wonder:how do they know this or that program is offensive? Does that not mean they spend their time watching these “offensive” programs in the first place? I truly dislike it when people try to tell viewers what they can and cannot watch. Most of us television fans have a brain,&,can decide for ourselves whether we wish to watch a program or not. Oh, and one more thing: what do they think MTV is? For their information-MTV stopped being an innocent channel where they just played music videos a long time ago. PTC-stop trying to tell others what they can and cannot watch. If you really wanna do something constructive: you guys should create your own “decent” programs for your own viewing pleasure, and, LEAVE THE REST OF US ALONE! Thank you.
Come on, the show airs at 11 PM. If your under 14 year old is still awake, that’s your fault as a parent. I think this is probably has to do with the fact that Jersey Shore is the lead-in and that show has a huge 12-17 demo.
I think the problem is that MTV REPEATS the show and it’s on during “normal” viewing hours…..hours where kids may watch because they are unsupervised by the PTC parents.
Only problem is that when it’s repeated earlier than its 11PM ET first run episodes, they’re heavily edited.
Then again, the Parent Trash Cult never tells the truth to begin with.
To the PTC,
Please quit trying to bubble wrap life for me. I don’t need you to tell me how to live. If you find something offensive on TV feel free to change the channel and instruct your children to do the same. Realize that I am not your child. Yes the show is not for children, but making a stink over it will only draw attention to it, kids will watch it and there goes the game.
I want my freedom of speech back.
Tell that to GLADD.
GLAAD can be on the nose, but at least they’re doing their part to defend gay rights instead of encouraging censorship.
Well there are some things people should have the decency not to say.
Okay, perhaps MTV should not air the show during the day, however: I STAND BY THE REST OF MY EARLIER COMMENT. It just really annoys me when the PTC tries to hurt programs by trying to get sponsors to drop out. I agree with the commenter who stated if your 14 year old is watching this at 11pm-that’s on you as a parent. Also, let us get real:compared to most other things teenagers & youngsters are exposed to on tv & on the internet-this program is pretty tame. All I am saying is this:It is not up to this group to tell me or anyone what I can or cannot watch. Put the content out there & let the viewers decide if they wish to watch or not. Also,MTV is not exactly an adult content type of cable channel, but,it’s been getting closer and closer to being one in recent years. My point being what I stated earlier:MTV is no longer an innocent video music channel, however,it is not up to this group to protest almost every program on MTV. I mean Skins, I just want my pants back, then what?Which MTV progam will this group boycott next? Please let US decide what we or our kids can & cannot watch.Thank you.
PTC means Pathetic Terrible Caricatures they are so terrified of sex.
Wake up PTC dimwits your kids no more about sex than you knew at their age. There’s nothing wrong with them watching sex or even having sex.
Sex is a natural thing and as soon as kids start to mature they become sexually curious. Stop trying to prevent their natural urges.
This is religious extremism these Christian Conservatives are as bad as Sharia Muslims. All religious extremists fear sex for reasons that are more psychological than sexual.
This is exactly what 13 and 14 year olds should be watching at 4 or 5 in the afternoon when they come home from school they should be encouraged to watch shows like this.
You sir or madam, are obviously a childless idiot. ‘Nuff said.
C’mon. Any show that has a girl asking a guy to stick his finger up her ass can’t be all bad.
Pants is like a casual sex show for kids…I’m all for freedom of speech, but where is the line between freedom and gross?
There is no line between freedom and gross- Gross is subjective and freedom, especially freedom of speech, is not- I find bad parenting gross, but Toddlers and Tiaras is still on the air- I just don’t watch it.
If you don’t like what’s on, change the channel (it’s not hard- I’ve seen my cat do it).
If parents have a problem, they should stop placing the blame on everyone else and take a long hard look in the mirror- Maybe if these PTC people weren’t so busy counting sexual references in crappy TV shows, then maybe, just maybe, they might have a little time to parent their own children instead of expecting everyone else to do it for them.
Most cable and satellite providers have a Parental Control option which allows you to block or limit certain programming. Perhaps these parents can put these features to use instead of trying to parent the rest of the country’s options.
sex is life.
violence is death.
which would you prefer to and be broadcast?
Violence is make believe. Sex on shows like this is to a certain degree, actually happening. They get nearly naked and make out and fondle each other. It’s only part acting. People rarely watch a violent show and go out and kill people and even in those rare cases they are deeply disturbed prior to media influence. Whereas perfectly well adjusted young people in huge numbers will be encouraged, even pressured, to make decisions to engage in sexually risky behavior which can mess up their lives.
You’re obviously not an actor. I get soooo horny being on my feet 12 hours a day with 27 lights shining in my face, the director and everyone on set watching me, and doing 7 different takes of the same damn kiss and grope. Yeah… only part acting.
There. Got that out of my system. The problem here is that MTV does cater to a young audience, and we’ll have the kiddos making “finger in my rectum” jokes instead of growing up with a healthy attitude toward sex. This is just for ratings & cheap laughs. First comes the healthy attitude… THEN you get the penis jokes, children.
why is PTC watching MTV to begin with?
I saw the two part premiere and the first episode was pretty racy (more than anything I saw on Skins, though I didn’t see much of that show and obviously the characters’ age on that show was a big deal for some), but I don’t see how it is wrong to show at 11pm on a cable network.
The one thing I will agree with the PTC is the unedited episodes probably do deserve a TV-MA if they are in line with the pilot, and if anything I find cable networks usually play it safe and sometimes give TV-MA ratings for episodes with content that doesn’t go beyond what I’ve seen in PG-13 movies.
The PTC will have a fit when 2 Broke Girls is syndicated in 4 years.
Why doesn’t the PTC go after the Viagra ads? Oh, I forgot they’re too busy trying to ban a woman’s right to contraceptives.
exactly. they’re living in the middle ages, where all the blame and responsibility is on the shoulders of the women. the guys are just being guys.
I wonder, do articles documenting GLAAD’s efforts to get broadcasters fired for saying or tweeting something 95% of America is totally find with start off “Here we go again”? The double standard is absurd.
I wouldn’t say 95% of America is fine with homophobia. Just because you and people you know are doesn’t mean everyone is. It’s a serious issue. When you have homophobic bullying and hate crimes it does indeed deserve to be taken seriously. And homophobic attitudes does partially stem from casual uses of the words f*g, f*ggot, and referring to things as “so gay.” When you’re using it to mean something is stupid then how can it not? It just creates negative attitudes in people towards gay people.
no-brainer “entertainment” – from lazy people who take their positions in the entertainment industry for granted, and who don’t want to be pulled away from their multi-martini lunches – is now merging with porn
Just change to the British system. Clean before nine, dirty after.
I never even heard about this show. Now I want to check it out. Thanks, PTC!
It’d be one thing for the PTC to use their organization to educate the parents who turn to them about content so they can make their own choices regarding what their kids watch, but they do seem to cross a line when they go after advertisers. Their lack of effort going after violent content is also suspect. They seem to not really care about kids at all- just pushing some kind of theocracy on the rest of the country.
I watched the MTV awards awhile back and thought it was really sad how sexualized it was given how young some of the viewers are, but ultimately, it’s the parents fault if they let their kids watch it. There are ways to block stations and conversations you can have with your kids about your expectations for them.
I have a solution – how about parents take responsibility for what their kids watch and leave the networks to air whatever shows they want? If you don’t want your kid to watch Pants, take five minutes out of your precious time and block it with the parental controls that every cable system has available? And another thing – MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND STOP TRYING TO CENSOR FOR YOUR BS VALUES!
I’m no christian condervative. But I just became a father, I’m 29 and grew up in the most liberal area in the northeast. One day you kids will understand. And no, it’s not positive for kids to have casual sex. Wy would it be? When you’re my age and you an adorable 15 year old sister and a newborn, you’ll understand. No parent want their daughter out getting screwed by a bunch of guys. Why is that positive? Problem with this show is not that it has casual sex. It’s that the casual sex is portayed as “cool” and “hip”. A 15 year old watches this on MTV and they think this is how young adults act. When in reality its a small subgroup of fictionalized narcisists. I had plenty of drunken sex and casual hookups and in the end, there was nothing positive about it. Mostly the girls had issues or were drink. I didn’t learn anything or gain anything of value from it. I think you’l feel completely different if you ever have a family of your own.
