EXCLUSIVE: Don’t ask me why so many young people are enthralled by YouTube’s The Annoying Orange. But millions seem to love the whiny character — and that has impressed Relativity Media. It just became the first movie studio to employ The Annoying Orange to promote a feature film: Mirror, Mirror, the upcoming comic revision of Snow White featuring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts. The massive fan base for the character, created by Dane Boedigheimer and produced and distributed by Collective Digital Studio, “enables us to reach Mirror Mirror’s family audience in a nontraditional way,” says Terry Curtin, President of Theatrical Marketing for Relativity. More than 2.3M people subscribe to The Annoying Orange’s YouTube channel, and since October 2009 its videos have had 1B views. Cartoon Network also plans a series around the character. Will this campaign help or hurt Mirror, Mirror? You decide:

This is kind of embarrassing.
Why is Tarsem associated with this? I
m assuming that they are trying to scramble to get Mirror Mirror as much money as it can. I dont think anyone was expecting Snow White and the Huntsman to be so impressive. Mirror Mirror looks like…a dwarf in comparison.
Bad move, Relativity
fucking embarrassingly awful and terrible.
Is this movie a parody? it almost looks like a scary movie type film spoofing fairy tales in a really really bad and unfunny way.
Tarsem isn’t exactly in high demand…after Immortals he’s probably just happy to be employed.
My sister’s kids love these annoying videos. They laugh their faces off at them. Clearly they’re reaching for the kid demographic with it.
But SWATH is a totally different movie – it’s like comparing beauty and the beast to beautician and the beast or something. Comparing them jut feels wrong
I just lost a ton of repsect for the folks at Relativity.
I know that Mirror, Mirror is a tough sell, but damn this is painful.
Personally, I think it is brilliant and it looks like a fun collaboration. While it may not be for everyone, its far from painful and Orange is a powerful brand in its own right. The channel is insanely popular with over 2 million subscribers and over a 1 Billion video views. My daughter wants to to see this movie. She watches Orange online and has a few toys. Smart.
This is actually really smart. Annoying Orange does all sorts of parodies of pop culture. Kids will likely see this skit and think it’s about a movie they OUGHT to have seen, so they’ll go see it, to be in on the joke.
Or they cold go watch Snow White…
Another sign that relativity is a sinking ship.
Very well done, they’re clearly going for a SHREK vibe on this one. Also, Tom Kenny called, he wants his SPONGEBOB residuals checks.
buncha’ old farts – annoying orange is funny and this is smart marketing. 1 billion views – enough said.
