Director James Cameron’s newly purchased farmland in New Zealand outside Wellington is fueling local speculation that he intends to make a significant portion of his two Avatar sequels in New Zealand. Reports say Cameron’s property is about 12 miles from the estate of fellow filmmaker Peter Jackson who’s currently at work on two-parter The Hobbit. Cameron’s property amounts to nearly 2,500 acres in the Wairarapa region about 50 miles northeast of Wellington, records show. The Avatar director owns two separate properties in the vicinity known for beef, sheep and dairy farming as well as vineyards. Cameron reportedly paid about $16.7 million. Records indicate Cameron and his Malibu-based family plan to “reside indefinitely” in New Zealand.

Love Cameron, hate Avatard.
Please don’t waste your last few years as a filmmaker working on more of that dreck.
First forty-five minutes of AVATAR was pretty amazing, well-structured and well written…
State of California’s really going to miss James’ taxes, though.
It’s funny how Cameron’s two most successful movies, and the two highest grossing movies of all time, are also apparently his most despised ones.
Mostly by contrarians.
thank God he is leaving Malibu…had enough of his in your face I am the greatest of all time..does he take Landau with him..Jon has been the the rock in keeping this guy on track…I doubt without him Cameron woud not be nearly as successful…Landau paid his dues with this megaloomanic..The ship movie and 10 years later Avatar…Jon stuck by him all that time. Loyalty to the extreme. I only wish Jon would strike out on his own…and make the movies he wants to make…bettheduck
I’m sorry but do you actually know who Jon Landau is?
Was going to say the exact same thing…
@rblythe It sounds like “bettheduck” (notice it’s always a phony name with this kind of thing) doesn’t even know who *Cameron* is, much less Landau.
And of course, “bettheduck” seems to not be able to remember anything before 1997…you know, those little Jimmy C art films like TERMINATOR 1 & 2, ALIENS, ABYSS, etc.?
Wow. Just…wow.
Loved Titanic.
Wait, wasn’t Avatar 95% bluescreen?
As much as I love Avatar, I would rather see Cameron work on other projects. I don’t want to see 10 years of his talent stuck on one movie.
I thought the one natural thing New Zealand didn’t have was rainforests. Isn’t that Australia?
NZ Does have a large percentage of rain forest. One being the westcost of the south isaland. Its a sub tropical rain forst where as australia has tropical rain forests.
Nice to know I won’t run into this bastard on the lot. Good riddance…
Like others have said, I love everything James cameron has done except for Avatar. I even like Titanic, not a movie I have seen 15 times, but at least I have seen it twice. avatar though was horrible, worst dialogue i have ever seen in a movie and one of the worst stories ever. Critics and fans always say he can´t write dialogue, but for Aliens and Terminator and the Abyss he wrote great lines. The abyss was a highly dramatic and suspense filled adventure-thriller. He created iconic lines that fans memorized and love to quote, but in Avatar? Nothing. But the characters and dialogue are not the worst part. The look of the whole movie was sickening. Like a cgi animated movie for a game. Sure the mo cap of the Avatars was gereat but that was thanks to weta. The rest was crap. There was not one single cool shot like the 5 minute one shot chase scene in Tintin.
The best part of the movie was the first 5 minutes, but that was only because it was in space and on the human base and the last five minutes because there was the amp suite vs thanator fight and then a quite touching moment between neytiri and jake with the giant navi holding jake in her arms. The rest of the movie put me quite honestly to sleep. And don´t get me started on the soundtrack.
Sorry for the review of Avatar and the negative rant, but I pray and hope that Cameron will spend more time to write a great story for Avatar 2 and 3 and then direct a great movie instead of inventing new technology.
