UPDATE: Duncan Heath responds to what I wrote: “So I guess you don’t like me. That’s OK. On a personal level, one probably has to bite the bullet — that’s just life. But I cannot keep quiet when it involves Independent Talent and its finances. The company did not need a ‘financial rescuer’ and never has. The finances of the company are incredibly robust. As our press release clearly states, we want to expand the business, and Yucaipa and Ron Burkle are going to help us do just that.”
PREVIOUS: I’d heard a few months ago that London tenpercenter Duncan Heath and investor Ron Burkle were talking. But when it comes to the agent, that’s all he ever does is talk, talk, talk. He’s been looking for a financial rescuer for his Independent Talent Group (aka Independent Talent Agency, formerly ICM-UK) for seemingly forever — something Heath’s own statement accompanying today’s news readily admits. Frankly, I washed my hands of Heath a long time ago after he flunked my truthfulness test. So now he and Burkle’s Yucaipa Companies have consummated a deal. Exactly how Burkle is picking his showbiz partners remains a real mystery to me and others. Ryan Kavanaugh? Duncan Heath? Who’s next — James Robinson? Elie Samaha? David Bergstein?
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Duncan is a great gentleman and his team represents some of the best talent there is. To lump him in with Samaha or Morgan Creek is libelous.
Can’t believe you define “libel” so loosely… or that you left The Great Bergstein off your list.
Ron Burkle gets dumber by the day. Relativity, Soho House, Duncan. What’s next? Savoy?
Come on, Nikki.
Duncan is a character, but he’s the real deal.
People, you’re not understanding that Burkle is not investing as a businessman. He is investing for the social clout it gives him. Burke is about movie stars and models and not much else. With Soho House, he got cache. With Relativity he got access. With Duncan he gets a London social director and concierge.
It aint about a master plan – the strategy is much simpler: Make Ron look cool (impossible) and get him laid…
This is ridiculous. ITG is stronger than ever and the number one European agency. Duncan Heath has one of the best client lists in the world. I see the play, I can’t believe you don’t.
I completely agree. Maybe this is a bad business deal, maybe it’s a good one, but bad-mouthing Duncan Heath reminds me to take the opinions on this site with a huge grain of salt.
Let’s not forget AMG
ITG’s client list is second to none, they grow and develop extraordinary talent. This investment is very exciting and will make them a serious competitor to the top 3 agencies in LA.
Probably a lot less expensive than getting into the talent agency business here. Plus : why exactly is it that Disney properties are developed for purposes of copyright in the United Kingdom? Is this still correct? Isn’t it possible that Burkle, with a talent agency in the U.K., could backdoor agency constraints in the United States that keep the agencies from producing or being a studio? Growing an American studio from abroad; doing it backwards essentially, agency papers in the U.K. being the foundation for what could conceivably add up to old school studio contract players here ultimately. Deconstructing Wasserman and M.C.A. basically by going at it in a deniable way of “hiding in plain sight.”
This is a great bit of business for both Ron and Duncan. ITG is the number 1 agency in Europe. Well Done Duncan!
duncan heath is an incredible agent (don’t take my word for it, take a look at his client list), inspiring to work with &, most of all, a thoroughly good man. independent does not need rescuing, this investment will only take it from strength to strength.
Your presumption that this amounted to a rescue is mistaken and curious. Duncan Heath’s ITG was and is a successful, well-run company. Your criticism of ITG and Burkle’s investment seems baseless and suggestive of some other, less than objective agenda.
