Roseanne co-stars Roseanne Barr and John Goodman together again. I’ve learned that, after lengthy negations, Goodman is in final negotiations to join Barr’s new sitcom, the NBC pilot Downwardly Mobile. Co-created by Barr, her boyfriend John Argent and Eric Gilliland, who will serve as showrunner, the multicamera Downwardly Mobile stars Barr as the proprietor of a mobile home park and surrogate mother to all of the unique people who live there in a challenging economy. Goodman will play a man who works at the park and has a buddy relationship with Barr’s character. Barr and Gilliland wrote the script and are executive producing with Argent. Goodman’s casting completes a big Roseanne reunion on the pilot. Gilliland is a former Roseanne executive producer. Gail Mancuso, who spent seven years on the ABC comedy and got her start as a director there, is directing the pilot. And Downwardly Mobile’s casting director Risa Bramon Garcia with Billly Hopkins cast the pilot for Roseanne. Goodman, hot off his turn in The Artist, has several movies in the pipeline, including the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. He also just signed on for Trouble With The Curve. On TV, Gersh-repped Goodman most recently co-starred on Damages.

Goodman is the star –
Roseanne is just the… I don’t know. Decorum?
I do not think that word means what you think it means.
Get after it, Rosie. You’re the best.
Michael Angeli
Someone should have saved his money better.
LMAO!!!
If the pilot goes to series, I predict Goodman will only play a recurring role, much as he did in Roseanne’s (godawful) final season. He’s a great actor and very much in demand. I’m anxious to see how this show develops….
WE can’t wait luv roseanne & john goodman will be better than this reality kardashians fake liars and housewife shows we are tired of these phoney shows making them rich!!! IT’s time for them to all end and bring on the funny!!! America needs a change and to laugh again it makes you live longer!!!
“America needs a change…” and I guess the best way to do that is rehash a sitcom from 20 years ago.
Oh please…..those of us who really understand the value of this blue collar comedy also understand that Rosanne is one of the best to represent the norm. She has a handle on the pulse of whats real for the most part yet can make the norm funny. And I will always be one of her biggest fans. In the eightys I was deeply depressed with a back injury,,,her show was all that made me laugh. I’ll never forget that….im so thankful for that. And even since that..she proves to be a strong and valuable female leader in that that she has overcome so many issues.
YES
i agree those housewife shows couldnt be more annoying time for some laughs!!
Sounds interesting. It sounds like this could be more recurring for Goodman, since he wouldn’t need to be in every episode. Which I think was what he was after even in the Roseanne days.
Have to say, the more I hear about this one the more it looks promising. I hope it goes to series. Anything not showing glitzy McMansions and “poor” twentysomethings living in 3000 sqf condos sounds great to me.
AMAZING. Can’t wait. Rosanne is bring smart back to TV!
“Rosanne is bring smart back to TV.” Sounds like it’s too late for you. Sorry.
I’m spinning in my grave.
Ok. Clearly hard up for cash because that script was complete trash. People will tune in at first to see these two together again and then it will get yanked.
Yeah, I’m thinking the same thing about how the show will premiere with decent numbers mostly out of nostalgia for Roseanne and John and then quickly fade. Tim Allen’s show is pretty much doing this now.
But since it’s on NBC it will probably get a full season.
Yeah I guess that’s why ABC has a few more “nostalgic” comedies in the works Reba, John Belushi, Kristi Alley. Because Tim Allen’s comedy is doing so poorly.
Did it every occur to you that SOME networks want the old timers back, like Betty White?
Since NBC is doing so well with the high brow crap on Thurs night, like The Office, maybe they want a change.
Yes…sigh…we live in a country where “high-brow” is a dirty word.
You obviously don’t know funny, the script is hilarious.
I think Roseanne is brilliant, passionate, creative and insightful. She is also quite unstable and difficult to rein in. Time will tell if she has tempered a bit – but her odd Roseanne’s Nuts show seems to indicate she has been merely lurking, like a dormant virus, ready to release the crazy again. Hopefully her string of career failures has chastened her. I certainly would welcome her talent back on the air, just so long as it wasn’t painful to watch. She does that shtick better than anybody. And certainly the downwardly mobile mood of the country is ready for another Roseanne.
Rosie must be angling to recoup the best table at The Palm. Bon appetit!
If we are lucky this will be in the tone of TRAILER PARK BOYS.
This is like when CBS did a sitcom with Bill Cosby and they hired Phylicia Rashad to play his wife again… that show was one of Les Moonves’ first big plays at CBS and it helped rebuild their Monday comedy block (they ended up moving “Everybody Loves Raymond” from Friday nights to follow Cosby, and we all know how well that worked out.
Then they moved Cosby and killed his show
Okay, here’s a crazy name to round out the cast: Sara Gilbert! Pardon me while I think outside the box.
They should also add both Beckys, Alicia Goranson and Sarah Chalke.
lol
Another crazy idea Laurie Metcalf as her best friend.
Best Friend???? There you go thinking outside the box… Let’s stick with sister, we don’t want to go crazy and confuse potential viewers.
all we need is another gay person on tv!!wont watch it,cant watch it,and my grandkids will in no way watch it!
Of all the bad ideas I’ve ever heard, this one takes the cake. And eats it too. Run for your life, John.
I won’t even watch one second. Can someone tell NBC it’s 2012.
If memory serves, reunion pairing hasn’t worked well. Case in point: “COSBY” on CBS anyone?
As a fly-over state Christian conservative, I disagree with Roseane’s politics; however, loved “Roseanne” and still watch the re-runs with my wife from time to time. Roseanne was smart, funny, and had heart. I wish Ms. Barr and Mr. Goodman all the best with this new endeavor, as network tv is in dire need of fresh, funny material.
DOA
DOA = Dumb ole ass, you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself fred. When is the last time you were on TV?
Sounds like another hit for ro.hope it gets picked up for the fall.
This is just…. awkward period.Roseanne blew John Goodman out of the water in her blog calling him all kinds of horrible things.Shes got a lot of asskissing to do is all I can say.Goodmans always seemed nicer then Roseanne 2 I used to be a fan of hers until I read the way she treats people who disagree with her and the way she talked about Goodman on her blog. She basically acted like he was beneath her and blamed him for almost everything including calling him a druggie and how she wanted to kill him off eventually…. which explains why she KILLED his character off in the series finale of the show.
Well he’s going back so not sure what’s the point of your comment.
Go get em Rosie!! I’ll watch and so will millions. We’ve missed you on tv and I for one can’t wait! Loved your “Rosanne’s Nuts”.
Welcome back to tv!!!!
I love roseanne! I still watch all the reruns of roseannne during the week. I hope they make this happen! I am definetatly a fan of both of them. I do wish in there new show they would be husband andd wife again. They click perfectly! Love u roseanne. I’ve been watching u since I was 13
Just read this pilot and loved it. The first 15 pages are setup and kind of rough but once it settles into the story it was classic, genius Roseanne. Goodman’s character is nothing like Dan. And Roseanne, well calling her Rose is about the only difference from Roseanne but WHO CARES. I laughed… A LOT.
Yeah, a comment that is right! It’s a great script.
you all watch the big bang theory most of the cast from Rosanne is on that show. think Ive seen everyone but Goodman and Roseanne.
I still watch the old rosanne shows…I know every word they’re gonna say and still love it..lol
