Roseanne co-stars Roseanne Barr and John Goodman together again. I’ve learned that, after lengthy negations, Goodman is in final negotiations to join Barr’s new sitcom, the NBC pilot Downwardly Mobile. Co-created by Barr, her boyfriend John Argent and Eric Gilliland, who will serve as showrunner, the multicamera Downwardly Mobile stars Barr as the proprietor of a mobile home park and surrogate mother to all of the unique people who live there in a challenging economy. Goodman will play a man who works at the park and has a buddy relationship with Barr’s character. Barr and Gilliland wrote the script and are executive producing with Argent. Goodman’s casting completes a big Roseanne reunion on the pilot. Gilliland is a former Roseanne executive producer. Gail Mancuso, who spent seven years on the ABC comedy and got her start as a director there, is directing the pilot. And Downwardly Mobile’s casting director Risa Bramon Garcia with Billly Hopkins cast the pilot for Roseanne. Goodman, hot off his turn in The Artist, has several movies in the pipeline, including the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. He also just signed on for Trouble With The Curve. On TV, Gersh-repped Goodman most recently co-starred on Damages.

The first two or three seasons of Roseanne were entertaining… Sounds better than “Chelsey, Is That You”, “Joey”, and “Whitney”… As long as the jokes are integrated into the plotlines and the jokes land instead of thud, I might go along for the ride… Hopefully this show will be better than “The Middle”, “How I Met Your Mother”, and “Rules of Engagement”.
… But then again, Roseanne does have a bad habbit of putting mustaches on Mona Lisas… So, I’m not holding my breath.
It’s difficult to predict how this show will go. It could ride a brief nostalgia wave and taper off to nothing, or it could remain a solid hit. Then again, it could bomb completely. I have to admit that, with such lazy reliance on “reality everything” that poisons our airwaves and kills the intelligence of our society, I’d be happy to see something different.
The first…I’d say…five seasons of Dan and Rosie were brilliant, endlessly watchable television. Roseanne and Goodman were effortlessly believable in their roles and I’d be happy to see them riff off of each other again. The new show’s success will depend on how much of the magic can be recaptured and how much of a fair chance it will be given by a typically indifferent public. I wish them the best of luck.
Thank God that some things seem to get better with time. We need to all laugh and the return of Roseanne even if only in a reunion with John Goodman will & should lift our spirts! I never missed a show when it was on. & I cryed the night they took it off. I love to laugh and all the charaters on that show made my heart right out giggle. Yes she did kill Dan off in the last show, but they also won the Lotto. the point is in Tv anything can happen.People come back from the dead all the time on most soaps you watch” so I say Dan Come forth.. I only hope that all the charaters will return to whatever they do. Roseanne I don’t know if you read these but I will have a front row seat to that reunion. I am a actor here in Nashville, Tn. God what I wouldn’t do to have a walk on just to be there with all you guy’s good luck to you all & we will be watching.
here’s an idea for the show…cast someone with a master’s that still can’t find a job and ends up living in the park, too. I, of course, would be typecast for the role.
I love you Rosie, always thought you were great. I wish you all the luck, you don’t let anyone get you down girl! Also, you and John Goodman are great together. Peace out!
I am excited to see Roseanne return to tv. I just hope people do not get her show confused with a show from the UK named Downwardly Mobile that aired from 7/94-9/94! I just searched for her show to find out when/if it will be on tv and found the UK show. FYI Good luck anyway I will still watch!
Yes, I am one of the people who love Roseanne and have watched very single episode a million times. I love her and Goodman and would enjoy seeing them together on another TV show. Since this country is now downwardly mobile, this show will fit in perfectly. Her book Roseannearchy was one on the most well written books I have ever read, she’s witty, brutal and insightful…and a little nuts, which makes her absolutely brilliant.
