EXCLUSIVE: Syfy is developing a series version of the 2010 supernatural thriller Legion, which starred Paul Bettany. The feature’s director/co-writer Scott Stewart is set to direct and executive produce the TV adaptation, which will be written by Vaun Wilmott (Sons Of Anarchy). Sony Pictures TV, the TV sibling of Sony’s Screen Gems division that distributed the film, is producing the series project. The movie, produced by Bold Films, chronicled human race’s battle for survival against God’s legion of angels sent by him to bring on the Apocalypse. The people get an unlikely ally in
Archangel Michael (Bettany), who disobeys God’s order and decides to help them. Bold Films’ David Lancaster and Michael Litvak, who were producers on the movie, will serve as executive producers on the potential series alongside WME-repped Stewart. ICM-repped Wilmott co-executive produces. Budgeted at $26 million, the movie grossed $68 million worldwide.

Really enjoyed the film and honestly thought it felt more like a pilot (or at least the first part of a franchise) more than a standalone film. Wonder if they will be able to persuade any of the original acts back (doubtful on syfy). I’ll be checking it out…
WHY? This film was a pure turd, just like everything else produced by Bold
GO Scott Stewart! A truly creative director with a vision, Scott will kick ass w/LEGION as a series. So proud of you, Bubble.
The movie was crap, can’t see myself tuning in weekly.
This is going to me so kick-ass! Scott and Vaum are going to kill this!
This looks promising.
Syfy where is the BSG prequel series Blood and Chrome?
whoever is responsible for that 90 minute film couldn’t even be bothered finishing it’s third act, how they can muster the energy for making an entire series baffles me.
SyFy keeps digging their own grave.
From Battlestar to Octopus vs The Shark Turd… to c-level movie adaptations?
Why not turn a really bad film into a series?
Oh, because it was a really bad film
Interesting. Legion was basically a feature adaptation of seasons 4 and 5 of a series currently in production on the CW called Supernatural.
Nice!!! Very excited for this! Vaun and Scott will make this incredible!
AWESOME! Congratulations Vaun & Scott. Can’t wait to see this come together.
So excited as I loved legion. Vaun is going to kill it!! Class act and extremely talented. This is only the beginning for him — you watch!
Awesome! Scott is a visual genius. This I an excellent pick-up for SyFy. And good for Vaun, I’ve been tracking him for years. The guy can write.
Would love, love, love if one of the episodes involves the Legion Crew going after the Ghost Hunters crew — cause man o’ man do those guys need a whipping.
I have to say this movie is on my top 5 of all time worst movies. It didn’t make any sense and it was just bloody awful.
WTF? Legion was – at best – C level rubbish with more than a hint of The Terminator in it’s structuring and plotting (albeit changed to Angels etc) so where any notion that it’s writer/director is talented or visionary is coming from I don’t know.
There’s equally nothing new here for a TV show to mine. But hey, Paul Bettany seems to be looking at TV now so maybe he could be convinced to make it a weekly gig.
Is the fact that this truly bad movie was profitable (barely) justification enough to turn it into a series or is Syfy that desperate for programming. Or both? I mean it could be good but well, there’s no evidence to suggest that it will be. Speaking of will, I thought the whole thing with angels was that they didn’t have free will so how could Bettany’s Michael “decide” to intervene against the wishes of almighty God and there’s me devoting way too much time to “Legion”.
Hm, cautiously optimistic. Because Legion was one of those movies that had the potential to be really cool but just wasn’t — oddly terrible pacing and some embarrassing dialogue did it in. So maybe they can do it right this time.
Then again, it’s SyFy.
For the “igniter” network, this is not very inspired. In fact, its not inspired at all. but why change now?
The movie might have been crap, but that doesn’t mean the series will be. I refer you to a movie that was flawed and poorly reviewed but became a long-running, critically praised series that illustrates this point: Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I’m not saying that Legion: The Series will be wonderful – just that there are precedents that suggest condemning it before it even gets to air is both short-sighted and stupid.
Joss Whedon didn’t have creative control of BtVS the movie, which was why he felt compelled to correct that error by creating BtVS the series, over which he did have control. The article says the same person that produced the film Legion will produce the series. This does not instil confidence. However I will withhold judgement until I see the show, if it even makes it past pilot.
