AWESOME SPOT!!!
Really? I thought it looked like a TNT TV show.
Think the war thing is played out. People are ready to move on.
That being said, I do hope it does some business for Relativity’s sake.
How do they have this much money to spend on airing this spot?
Oh, good, I’ve been waiting for a remake of “Triumph of the Will.”
Incidentally, given how much money the Pentagon pumps into these pro-war filmgasms, can anyone really make the claim that they can’t stand to have their budget cut? So thrilled to see my taxpayer money spent on this filth.
You mean the portrayal of the heroes who fight for your freedom to post anonymously on the web?
And why do you think the Pentagon paid for it?
You be dumb.
The US Military isn’t fighting for my freedom in Afghanistan, nor were they fighting for my freedom in Iraq. Pull your head out of your flag. I’m not attacking the soldiers here, I’m attacking an out-of-control military industrial entertainment complex which spends trillions of dollars a year on unnecessary war.
I’m a liberal, and you, aggregator, are an embarassment. making a film about seals, with seals, is an interesting idea that deserves a chance to be seen and heard. comparing this to nazism in any sense of the word is such utter trash that your comment invalidates itself.
Sorry but the public has been reading about drone strikes and Blackwater employees massacring civilians and soldiers with PTSD and wars costing trillions that accomplish absolute zero for the American people.
The public knows propaganda when they see it.
Exactly, which is why movies like “Rendition” and “Green Zone” all tank in the box office.
Really? That’s it? I’m a HUGE war movie fan – HUGE – and I’ve been dying to see this movie since I heard about it and this trailer is plain lame. Maybe the movie is good, but I’m very disappointed.
Also, while I appreciate the antiwar, anti-pentagon sentiment expressed above, the fact is that “Triumph of the Will” existed in a society where the media was completely controlled and run by the government. Calling something “propaganda” in this day and age where we in the west have access to an infinite number of works that take different perspectives on issues of the day is really not understanding what propaganda really is. For every flag-waver there’s a “don’t we suck” movie soon to follow. In fact, there are more likely two “we sucks” for every “let’s roll” type films that get distributed, I’d say…
Sorry but this movie smacks of propaganda and gun porn. I’m sure it will be huge in the midwest and south.
You are a huge war movie fan? Well “Apocalype Now” is my favorite movie of all time. Im pretty sure you havent seen it, or missed out on the point of it
Relativity is good for the business, Ryan provides jobs and takes chances, blah blah blah!
lol! I’m there with ya, brother.
So that’s where our christmas bonus checks went!! Where’s our money Tucker?!?!
I think this movie looks groundbreaking in that real servicemen are the actors. A new, different and exciting fresh idea. The movie looks great!
Yeah, that’s a great idea, maybe we could have actors go out on special operations missions! The movie is an action/glorification of war piece. That’s okay, but the weak link is the guys in it when they try to “act.” Wooden beyond belief.
This movie is based on a Tom Clancy novel. I don’t normally post anything after reading comments but I will this time, I am a former operator, I am looking forward to seeing how they did with this film and I am going to take an objective look at it. I won’t pick it apart during the film like some people will, it’s a work of fiction and it should be enjoyed, however, the one thing that has always bugged me with movies as well as many of my associates is the ridiculous behavior of some of the actors portraying guys who are working in a combat environment. Either they seem just freakin wacky or they are breaking down and crying. That crap doesn’t happen. Guys just go and work and the rest just falls into place later. So I know if the directors allowed the SEAL’s who worked on the film the right to change things to fit with real world spec. Then this might be a decent film. so we’ll see.
You don’t have to be an anti-war hippie to see this film as something approaching propaganda. Look at its production history: ACT OF VALOR began as a recruitment video commissioned by the U.S. military’s Naval Special Warfare Command, and the Navy reportedly had approval rights over the final cut. This isn’t merely some action film that is just rah-rah pro-military enough to receive generous help from the Pentagon. It’s something much more than that, like a co-production, perhaps unprecedented in the post-Vietnam era.
But who knows? Propagandistic or not, ACT OF VALOR could turn out to be a tolerably good movie on its own terms. A lot of fairly pro-military films like John Ford’s THEY WERE EXPENDABLE or even, yes, TOP GUN have stood the test of time.
I agree with the person who quoted They Were Expendable.
But it will probably do solid business in the heartland.
War porn.
This movie will open very strong, beating this weekend’s top movie box office to easily be #1 next weekend. It’s fortuitous that Iranian nukes are in the news this week, too.
Give audiences what they want – action, unambiguous good guys and bad giys, and good triumphs over evil.
That’s one way you make money in showbiz.
The hype is that this movie will be uniquely realistic due to the actors being active military personnel. But then I watch the ad and it features a soldier sliding across the pavement on his knees like Pete Townsend as he’s about to fire his weapon. Gun porn bullshit.
I’ve seen the movie and it’s sensational. It could have been Oscar material. Impactfull. Hard movie to market but bottom line it’s a good movie movie.
Oscar material? Seriously? I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE TOO and its some of the worst writing and acting i’ve seen. Ever. are you kidding?
this could have been great– but it’s not. not by a longshot. You feel aweful for these guys watching them act bc you want them to do good and it’s just not what they do. its a gigantic mess.
The production design looks amazing.
I have no idea if the move is good or not. But, I think that it’s cool that real Seals are in the movie.
