Writer Brett Conrad (Sons Of Anarchy, Covert Affairs) has sold the spec sci-fi action drama The Dover Agenda to Syfy, with Barry Josephson (Bones) on board to executive produce and FremantleMedia to produce. The Dover Agenda – currently being adapted to a 90-minute pilot, the format used by Syfy — is a thriller about a young man who is recruited by a future version of himself to work for a secret branch of Military Intelligence specializing in parapsychology and future tech. The nature of fate comes into play as the man slowly begins to realize he did not turn out the way he thought he would. Conrad is repped by UTA and Magnet Management.

This is a rip-off of Rian Johnson’s LOOPER. That’s just sick and sad, SyFy.
No it isn’t.Looper is about a guy in the present who kills people sent back in time by the mob.He realizes his current target is his future self and lets him get away.
This project is about a soldier who travels to the present to recruit his younger self in order to save the world.
They both share the concept of time travel and meeting one’s past/future self(as do several other projects), but the stories are completely different.
Looking forward to this. Liked his work on SOA
Can not wait for covert affairs season 3
Interesting idea, but it’s also very similar to Robert Kirkman’s recent comic book series, The Infinite. It’s about a soldier in his 40′s who must travel back in time and recruit younger versions of his army(including his 20 year old self) in order to save the world from Imperius, an enemy that has ravaged the future/his present.
I wonder if they’ll possibly be some litigation involved in this. While time travel stories are very common, you rarely, if ever have one where a character actually teams up with his future or past self. And both projects are about military groups with high-tech weapons.
I honestly would like to see this show because I really like that concept.Hope there are no bumps in the role.
This sounds interesting, but somewhat similar to Terminator in terms of whether everything occurs along a straight line or if you can go back in time and alter your life. Speaking of which, Syfy should’ve picked up that show after FOX canceled it.
This seems like something that will need a really good budget to produce a quality execution. So is SyFY going to be willing to spend more money that it isn’t spending on other shows.
Yeah clearly Barry J and SyFy’s execs are clueless about the current comic book scene — this is exactly like Robert Kirkman’s THE INFINITE (which us an awful book but at least you can say it’s from the creator of THE WALKING DEAD).
It’s truly unfair to call something a rip-off when it’s just the reality of developing projects. This writer could have been forty pages into his when he heard the other project sold with a similar concept. Just the way it is.
Let’s just celebrate the fact that SyFy is looking to add another science fiction show, instead of crap like WWE Smackdown, Hollywood Treasure, or the new uggghhhh, Total Blackout.
This sounds great to me. I hope Sy-Fy goes with the pilot and see the final result. Should be great
I’ll second that — SyFy buying anything original is a major coup. Let’s see if they can turn it around…
It’s a very cool script and really isn’t a ripoff of any of these things. One vague logline does not capture what the series is. Happy for Brett, who’s a good writer and a good guy.
Syfy will do what they always do, spend money on the pilot then slash the budget on the series and blam viewership when they cancel it for dismal ratings.
