EXCLUSIVE: The Vampire Diaries alum Taylor Kinney has landed a lead role in the NBC firefighter drama pilot Chicago Fire, from Wolf Films and Universal TV. In the action-driven drama about the complex and heroic men and women of the Chicago Fire Department, Kinney will play adrenaline-junkie Squad Lieutenant Kelly Severide, the leader of the elite firefighters who respond to the most dangerous fires or rescue operations. Kinney, who is getting a lot of media attention at the moment for dating pop star Lady Gaga, joins recently cast Eamonn Walker, who plays the captain of the squad. Michael Brandt and Derek Haas wrote the pilot, which is being directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff. Dick Wolf, Brandt, Haas, Peter Jankowski and Danielle Gelber executive produce. This marks Kinney’s return to NBC and Universal TV after co-starring in the 2009 medical drama series Trauma. He is with Gersh and Principal Entertainment.

Great news. I liked him a lot on Vampire diaries. I’ll check it out.
This show ‘Chicago Fire’ is gonna flop like all of Dick Wolf’s other non-Law & Order related shows, especially since it’s on NBC. Besides, it doesn’t really sound that interesting.
I would have settled for ‘Law & Order: Chicago’, it actually sounds better and might stand a chance on NBC. They did wonders with ‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 13, they could do the same with another ‘Law & Order’ spinoff, I don’t see ‘Chicago Fire’ lasting more than 13 episodes, might go for 22 but that’ll be it.
Rumor says NBC might be reviving, ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Dick Wolf is messing up like ge did with ‘Deadline’, ‘Arrest & Trial’, ‘Conviction’, ‘Law & Order: Trial by Jury’ and ‘Law & Order: Los Angeles’ (before it’s retool).
It’s hard to believe that neither CSI nor L&O have tapped Chicago (or for that matter SF) as locales – both places – particularly Chicago for L&O would work so well.
Actually, NBC had Trauma on a few years back set in S.F. Taylor was in that and the show was very intense. Kind of like a modern reboot of Emergency.
Trauma tanked because it had terrible writing, was unrealistic and nobody got that the air medical services profession isn’t Baywatch. Next time they should consult the real flight crews and ER physicians that do it every day when they script, because they were way off the mark. With a backlash from the real heroes, and with an inflated budget – down the drain it went!
This sounds like a solid series. Would love to see Jessalyn Gilsig cast as a lead in this. She has been stellar in everthing she has been in.
I’d prefer Adrianne Palicki
Taylor just played a role on BREAKOUT KINGS for us and was fantastic. Great guy — great actor.
Booooring… not him, the show concept.
Great casting.
Great guy. Great actor. Nice to see him getting the recognition he deserves. Sounds like a solid series and great part for him. Rock on Taylor.
Other than Boss & Shameless, which being on pay cable makes them a special cases, everything set in Chicago has flopped the last several years.
Except for The Good Wife…
I’m looking forward to seeing Eamonn Walker. I love him!
