Here is a trailer for HBO’s Girls, the series debut of feature prodigy Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture). Dunham wrote, directed and stars in the comedy series about twentysomething girls in New York that she executive produces with Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner. At TCA last month, Dunham said she grew up on HBO’s Sex And The City. Facing the inevitable comparisons, she called her “girls” the generation who expected to move to New York and have a great boyfriend, great job and “an elegant shoe closet” like the Sex And The City women — but it didn’t happen. As her character says in the trailer, she thinks she may be “the voice of my generation, or at least a voice of a generation.” While Dunham made a name for herself with her $25,000 breakout feature Tiny Furniture, she is joined in the cast of Girls by two young actresses who are the offspring of famous fathers: Brian Williams’ daughter Allison Williams and David Mamet’s daughter Zosia Mamet. Girls premieres April 15.

Lot of nepotism involved in this one from the top down.
must miss!!
I found this pilot to be disgusting and I’m a single, 20 something female. What is HBO thinking? First they put on Entourage, How to Make it in America, Boardwalk, Luck… movies about Phil Spector directed by David Mamet whose daughter is in this piece of hateful junk.
Misogyny and nepotism is what HBO seems to do best these days.
They should call this show “S%it Rich White Girls in New York Say”
“I Just Want My Pants Back” looks way better.
This is mildly disgusting. Entitled. White. Oh and “you think you might be the voice of your generation?” What generation is that? Oh, the one you “girls” and your famous fathers. A REAl struggle. HBO, big disappoint.
HBO thinks because it has the word “Girls” in the title it makes up for all the female bashing and hatred they spew in all their other TV shows and movies. Boardwalk, Luck, years of Entourage, movies about Phil Spector, Bernie Madoff, Eastbound and Down… few women even have speaking parts much less have meaningful stories.
I saw this pilot and it disgusted me. I find it hard to believe any of the execs at HBO even have daughters they make such misogynistic crap.
This one needs to go away quickly.
Even more nepotism: I believe Dunham’s mom is a famous visual artist, and another actress in this is the daughter of a ’70′s stadium band rock star. Keep breaking new ground HBO.
Twee and lame.
It looks like it was shot on a camera phone.
There is a Chris Eigeman sighting, so I’m just going to back away from whatever negative comments I had ready to go and just be pleased to see a brief moment of Chris Eigeman.
Normally I complain when comedies have all their funniest bits in the trailer. But I now have a better understanding of why they do it, after watching a trailer like this that really could have used more funny bits.
Or in this case, there are probably no funny bits.
Lena Dunham is an acquired taste…and I must admit, I’ve acquired it…I mean her, oh whatever…
And although money and connections certainly cannot buy talent, one shouldn’t forget that Lena Dunham is the daughter of a very famous NYC visual artist (just google it). Nothing wrong with nepotism if the product is good. But if it sucks, then I blame nepotism, dammit!
Lena did a great job with Tiny Furniture. It’s a definite must miss feature but she at least nailed it.
Please, please, please no more underwear shots though… put your pants back on.
Don’t care don’t care don’t care about
accusations of nepotism
famous parent
SITC comparisons
Lena Durnham is talented
I dug TINY FURNITURE
and I’m rooting for her
No need to tear this young lady down
Oh yeah….lets watch Fox’s New Girl. Its so quirky.
that trailer made me dislike them all. I want to root for none of them. I can go to the Americana to see entitled bullshit like this for free.
Hipsters, rich white girls problems, random sex scenes…This show will bomb harder than How to Make it in America.
In the half hour series category, there is no doubt anymore that Showtime owns HBO.
But you forget — How To Make It In America had smoking hot chicks…
I was kinda hoping for the same here. Hmmm.
I think it looks kinda great.Unlike other posters, I’m not getting an”entitled rich girls” vibe. Love that HBO continues to support stuff like this and Enlightened.
I think the trailer is great. And the show looks promising. Can’t wait for the 15th.
Is this just a serialized version of Tiny Furniture? How many people from the feature are also in the series?
The only actor I’m happy to see in this is Peter Scolari. Listening to everyone else is like being stuck between stops on the “L” train.
I would venture to guess that those who have written negative comments about the trailer are men who will never understand why this trailer is VERY funny.
Lena Dunham is very talented. And TINY FURNITURE is a true gem.
Not necessarily. Just because you’re female doesn’t mean you relate to this or find it entertaining in the least. And fyi Lena? I doubt your entire generation imagined moving to NYC to be just like Sex and The City. Nice try though – some of us are self sufficient, independent women who work for years before achieving success – not spoiled, entitled girls sitting around whining about having to find work after college and the men that take advantage of you. Women get a bad name because of stuff like this – it’s like they took Sex and the City to be a religious experience or something – worse than Eat Pray Love. Not all of us are so dumb(not knocking SATC writing – that was actually original – this is not).
AMEN!
I second this post and so do many other women!
PREACH!
Can we get this post to rise to the top please?!
Lena Dunham may be talented, but her career and this series are still about the rich supporting the rich. What kills me the most is the title. How can you call something so completely insular and non-representative of the masses “Girls?” Seriously? Just that notion alone is so misogynistic, my skin is crawling.
I really liked the trailer and am looking forward to the series.
No need to pay attention to the rude comments. Sometimes people think rudeness is a sport. It’s not.
This looks completely awesome. LOVE Lena. How to Make it in America wasn’t about anything, this is.
