EXCLUSIVE: Tyler Labine is set to co-star opposite Justin Kirk in NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot Animal Kingdom. Also cast in the office comedy is actor-comedian Bobby Lee (Harold & Kumar). Animal Kingdom, from Universal TV and American Work, centers on a House-like veterinarian, Dr. George Coleman (Kirk), who loves animals but usually hates their owners. Labine will play Dr. Doug Jackson, George’s fellow veterinarian and friend who is trying to get over a breakup. Lee will play Dr. Kim, another vet who loves gambling and partying. Brian Gatewood and Alex Tanaka wrote the script and are executive producing with Anthony and Joe Russo, who are directing, Scot Armstrong and Ravi Nandan. Labine, whose series credits include Reaper, Sons Of Tucson and Mad Love, was recently seen in Rise Of The Planet of The Apes. He is with CAA and manager Tyman Stewart. MadTV alum Lee, repped by CAA, will next be seen in Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator.

Too bad the title “Animal House” is already taken.
This guy must have some agent.
Five (or is it six) failed series and here he comes again?
So six or seven might be the charm.
I think Labine it’s just a matter of when, as opposed to if. He’s the quintessional TV sitcom star in my opinion, hasn’t had the right vehicles yet. There’s a reason the networks keep casting him, it’s similar to Jon Cryer through many failed pilots before he finally got one that worked.
Dead Last(2001), That Was Then(2002), Invasion(2005), Reaper(2007), Sons of Tucson(2010) and Mad Love(2011).6 in 10 years. And in every series, Labine was the best part.I actually enjoyed several of those shows.Hopefully, this will be a winner.I honestly thought Reaper would go the distance.
Congrats Tyler! I’ll watch anything this guy does!
His ratings are awful no doubt, but TBS did Conan a disservice in a way. Where was the original programming to lead into Conan and Tyler Perry’s stuff doesn’t count because his audience comes to TBS for his shows than leaves as soon as it’s over. Put Tyler’s stuff on either an hour earlier (9 PM EST/PST) or move it to Friday/Sunday. Then put your young-adult humor in the 10 o’clock hour, Monday-Thursday.
Why is the Wedding Band taking so long to premiere? I also think airing the half-hour shows back to back only hurts the product. I know everything is about the money, but Turner has a war chest of financial resources, they can afford to program a little bit more than just reruns. The 9-11 hour with comedy is there for the taking if Koonin and Wright would get their act together. TNT is good, TBS is not.
Love Bobby Lee, congrats.
Labine is awesome. He deserves a show with some legs.
Labine is supremely talented. Big star stuff.
Bobby Lee? From MADTV? No, thanks!
