The actress is coming off of the recent box office successes of Underworld: Awakening for Screen Gems/Sony Pictures and Contraband for Universal. She will next be seen this summer co-starring in Sony Pictures’ reboot of Total Recall. Beckinsale’s credits include The Aviator and, my favorite of hers, Laurel Canyon. She was previously represented by WME. She continues to be represented by attorney Steve Warren.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Whitesell’s the best in the business. This was not a wise choice.
I agree this was kind of dumb. Isn’t Whitesell the reason her career didn’t completely crater and she’s now got a little momentum? What did UTA promise?
Didn’t she leave CAA like a year and 1/2 ago? Next month’s headline will read: “ICM Signs Kate Beckinsale.”
Whitesell is great – but only with certain clients.
But something must have happened because he put her in Contraband which was the best thing she has done in years.
Wow she left Patrick? What happened and who’s handling her at uta? Theresa?
idk. From the outside it looks like all the WME agents are desperate for cash lately. Nobody is building their client’s brand or has a long-term picture in mind. It’s all about landing B-grade schlock for the highest quote possible. Clients are getting shoved into all kinds of crap, with no quality control. In the longer term this is very damaging to these clients, but the agents don’t seem to care. It’s all about CASH, CASH, CASH and when they finish devaluing the client and squeezing the last drop of public goodwill out them, they are dropped for the next fresh client. That’s just how it seems from afar to me.
Bingo!!!! WME has failed quite a few of their big name clients, and it appears to be for the very reasons you mentioned. That’s why they’ve lost so many. WME and Whitesell did absolutely nothing for Kate Beckinsale. She was right to ditch them.
She just had two #1′s at the B.O. And a much anticipated reboot on the way. Why UTA??
Okay, let’s set the record straight. Patrick Whitesell was useless and incompetent. He was far worse for her than the agent she left before him. He did absolutely nothing for her, except put her in Contraband, which was pretty good. But from what I’ve read, Whitesell had very little do with Kate Beckinsale getting that role. That’s the only film you can give him any credit for, and he doesn’t deserve much for that. So he essentially helped get her one role in the 2+ years she’s been with him.
As for Underworld Awakening and Total Recall, you can thank Kate Beckinsale’s husband Len Wiseman for those two roles. He created the Underworld series, directed the first two films, and produced all of them. He was the one who suggested she do another one, and she has said so. He also is directing Total Recall, and he was the one who cast her in that. Whitesell had nothing to do with either of those roles. Thank her husband.
Kate Beckinsale is no different than a lot of big name actresses in Hollywood. She is looking for good work and there are very few good roles in Hollywood for women, especially women approaching 40. Sure, she could work consistently. But she’s an intelligent woman who wants to do good work, as she has done many times in her career.
The new logo proves to be a game changer.
I couldn’t possibly agree more Ms. Finke. Laurel Canyon was Beckinsale’s best film thus far, a genuinely brilliant film in every aspect.
Kate has done better work and better films before and since Laurel Canyon. Cold Comfort Far, Much Ado About Nothing, Haunted, and Last Days Of Disco are just a few of the good films and good performances she did before Laurel Canyon. The Aviator, Nothing But the Truth, and Snow Angels are examples of good films and good to great performances she’s done after Laurel Canyon.
Yes, Laurel Canyon is a pretty good film and she’s good in it. But she’s done much better work.
uta is getting a lot of really good talent now because wme wants to do way too much. what made endeavor successful was their young and exciting talent department. as more and more pick off of wme, they might as well just go back and drop the e, because that’s what they will be: william morris in 2008.
Do you mean UTA is getting a lot of dropped talent?
Yeah, I’m sure WME is dropping the big name clients that UTA is getting. Like that would make any sense. You don’t drop big name movie stars unless they are a nightmare to work with.
If it were really whitesell then maybe, but everyone knows that marching orders after merger were pure cashflow and cashflow didnt include actively booking women. Endeavor built a brand. Wme is attempting to build an empire. KB clocking in on another Underworld installment in three years isnt going to be filling their warchest and hardly worth the time to them. She isnt going to be in the next Bridesmaids or
or a Whitney. They work hard at UTA and have always been great to deal with in my opinion. As exhibited in Laurel Canyon and a few others KB has a depth of talent as yet fully realized or utilized. Here’s to her finding her voice and success in this next phase!
Kate’s a smart woman and I’m sure she knows what she’s doing. Many actresses in her position have fallen off the face of the planet.
There’s a lot of shuffling going on at WME. From all that I’ve heard, the one sure thing is that they have not found stability since the merge. CAA and UTA are waiting like sharks for their next unhappy A-lister.
So who now is her agent at UTA?
…she’s a great talent and this is a good move. Look forward to her finding a role to match her gifts.
