EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has closed deals with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to produce another installment of I Am Legend, the 2007 hit film. The intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on Earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population. A deal was made with Arash Amel to write the script. The film is not being called a prequel, which had been rumored for the past few years. But clearly Warner Bros sees more room to roam on a film that grossed $584 million worldwide. The original film is based on the novel by Richard Matheson.
Smith won’t commit until the script is ready and I haven’t heard yet where I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence stands on the whole thing. The other quandary is this: If it isn’t a prequel, how to get past Smith’s character’s demise at the first film’s end? These of course are semantics in the tentpole game. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are casting a continuation of 300, another hit film where all the major characters croaked. Amel is a hot scribe; his script Grace Of Monaco, the film about Grace Kelly that will be directed by La Vie En Rose‘s Olivier Dahan with Pierre-Ange Le Pogam producing and financing, has all the young actresses salivating. Buyers are also waiting to pounce. CAA made the deals.

CANT WAIT!
We saw something blow up, but we never saw a definite corpse or viable evidence of his death.
They did the same thing with te Descent. She clearly lives at the end but the alternate (regular ending everywhere else in the world) she dies. They still made a sequel.
Right cuz the $15 max u paid to see it would just eat ur heart out if the ending wasn’t true LOL get a life
I can believe a world of flesh eating dead ppl, but Smiths character living on after that ending, that I can’t believe.
I think its gonna end up being like Star Wars and Paranormal activity, where they explain the previous releases with the current one. Prolly gonna explain in more detail what happend before the virus
It has to be a prequel
Whatever. I was disappointed with it, it was OK, but some of their story decisions were boneheaded. Only Will Smith could get that huge gross from what was basically a horror movie. The big issue is that Smith needs to stop making sequels and move on to fresh projects, or else suffer the law of diminishing returns. I think MIB3 is a misstep.
BRITISH ACCENT: I’m not dead yet. I’m feeling better.
It’s just like the scene in Revenge of the Sith after the Yoda,Palpatine fight when the clone says “We didn’t find a body.” And the Senate speaker replies “Then he’s not dead.” Just because logic would seem to dictate Nevill died doesn’t mean it happened because we didn’t see a dead body.Nevill blew up his lab with a hand grenade not a 500 pound bomb,so WB can get around his “death” by taking a trick out of the old serials and shooting an additional scene showing him diving into the same coal shoot the woman and boy got out in.Nevill is stunned but chooses to remain in the city to continue his research/war against the Vampires.Easy enough.
Predicted Smith reaction to the next draft: “Needs Tommy Lee Jones in it.”
..’cause, ya know, what we all REALLY need is
EVEN MORE images, movies, games, apps, commercials, etc. of apocalyptic futures, undead gross corpses,
and happy feelings like that!. Because really, thats all not getting OLD or anything, right?
And Hollywood wonders why attendance is down. Blame mediocre sequels, not megaupload.
Any bets on which 70′s song hook Smith will steal to make the movie theme song?
i would like to see a sequel to the 1954 book I AM LEGEND.i would like to see what someone[mr. matheson, etc.] could do with it.look at how this book has influenced modern culture.i would also like to see a tv mini-series that followed the book as much as pssible.this was tried in the 1964 film,THE LAST MAN ON EARTH.—-thank you
i would like to see a sequel with flashes from a prequel, specially the the devastation. and i would like to see will smith on the sequel some how survived or attach the alternate ending at the beginning.
