EXCLUSIVE: Disney has tapped William Fichtner to replace Dwight Yoakam in The Lone Ranger. He will play the bad guy that Yoakam was set to take on before the actor-singer dropped out Friday because of a scheduling conflict. Now Fichtner is in. He just completed filming Elysuim for Sony and MRC with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, as well as Phantom opposite Ed Harris and David Duchovny. Fichtner, repped by Paradigm and Intellectual Artist Management, will make his directing debut with the indie Coldbrook after wrapping Lone Ranger.

The most likely decision. I stand behind it whole lionhearted.
was sad to see Yoakam drop out but Fichtner it the best. great casting choice!
Is Timothy Hutton still in this movie? They keep changing people.
Love love love William Fichtner. Perfect. So underrated. He will be awesome.
Loved him in Go. Loved him in Entourage. He occupies both sides of creepy/funny as well as anyone not named John Lithgow.
Fichtner simply elevates any project he does, plain and simple. He’s the American version of Pete Postletwaite. Good choice, Gore…
Love him. Always good. Great choice.
Despite how silly the whole concept sounds, I’m liking this movie more and more – Armie Hammer as some young punk who gets taught the ways of the Wild West by Johnny Depp’s Tonto, while William Fichtner bwahahas from behind a handlebar mustache…yeah, that works.
The fact that Depp and Verbinski would fight Disney to keep this movie alive tells me that there’s something there.
Even though Tanto translates to “idiot” and Johnny is not to my knowlede Native American, I find it sad that most TV drama remakes are done usually as bad comedies. With all that is going on with the US government and their repression of multiple Native American nation and their land and mineral rights, it ashame a brilliantly timed opportunity to actually say something will be most likely missed.
LOVE Fichtner…he was so good on Entourage!!!! Worked with him once and he’s at the nicest guy.
Fichtner is awesome ! This film just got put into the must see category.
William Fichtner will make a good villain. Something about him, puts me in mind of Alan Rickman (can you imagine Mr. Rickman in The Lone Ranger?) He’s busy, though, with that play, Seminar which from what I’ve heard is very good! Would love to see that! Anyway, good for Wiliam Fichtner! He’ll do fine!
William Fitchner is the best actor to come along in years! He shines in any role that he plays!
I have had the privilege of meeting Bill Fichtner and have followed his career for years. Disney has made a wise choice as he improves any film in which he takes part (stage too). So glad to hear he continues to be sought after. Good luck Bill….you deserve the very best roles because you are such an excellent actor!
I also would have preferred a native American as Tonto for two reasons, one is to give more opportunities to an actor of this extraction, two is there should be a more respectful way of portraying “indians” rather than making their image farcical.
