EXCLUSIVE: Hot off the 2012 Sundance Film Festival premiere of his film The First Time, Jon Kasdan has signed with WME. Kasdan, who wrote and directed The First Time, made his directing debut on 2007′s In The Land of Women, which he also wrote. The First Time, which stars WME clients Dylan O’Brien and Craig Roberts, is a fresh, grounded and funny coming of age story set in high school. Kasdan grew up in the business. He’s the son of writer/director Lawrence Kasdan, and has played roles in his father’s films The Big Chill, Silverado, The Accidental Tourist and Dreamcatcher. He’s also the brother of Bad Teacher helmer Jake Kasdan.

Perhaps more relevant than cameos in his father’s features as a kid, he recently did a multi-episode arc on CALIFORNICATION and wrote on DAWSON’S CREEK and FREAKS AND GEEKS.
The First Time was absolutely my favorite movie at Sundance. Can’t wait to see what he does next.
He and Jake fighting for the same projects at the same agency? Will never work or last.
You. Are. A. Douche. Some people actually love each other, and wish each other well. Research it. It’s true.
So the two little kids I used to see accompany their dad to Dave’s Laser Video in Sherman Oaks in the early 80s have both become feature directors. Watching all those laserdiscs must have been a great education.
Well he could really use some lessons from dad on how to write relatable characters in plausible situations. Was very surprised this film got into Sundance competition. Oh wait, did you say his last name is Kasdan — as in Lawrenxe and Jake? Ah.
Jon is a great guy and very talented!
Big congrats to Jon. Very happy for him. He’s a sweet talented guy and so is his entire family.
His old man wrote “Empire Strikes Back” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” which makes him alright in my book. Man, what a great environment to grow up in!
Jon is a pleasure. An absolute delight.
lots of comments about Jon being a good guy. So the fuck what? I’ve seen his work, and he is clearly not talented. Perhaps part of the cause of hollywood’s struggles at the box office the past few years is too many directors hired cuz they’re the nice guy son of a famous dude.
Couldn’t agree, more Trudy. I have worked at a major agency for 17 years. I see more of this than ever. Yes, connected individuals who get a paycheck from their parent whether or not they work. They fancy themselves “artists” and mimic material they think is cool. There is not an ounce of soul nor originality in what they do. But we have to service them. I will say their gravitas
Listen, the guy isn’t trying to write Star Wars or Indiana Jones, he’s written to soft romantic comedies. He’s done a good job at it, and he’s playing to his strengths. People are sometimes like their parents, but they’re not their parents…
