On Thursday, my colleague Mike Fleming weighed in on rumors being reported as fact elsewhere that said threequel Bridget Jones’s Baby was in trouble. Mike’s sources were adamant the movie would get made this year, denied that Hugh Grant had bailed and said that he, Colin Firth and Renee Zellweger are determined to see it through. Confirming Mike’s intel, Working Title’s Tim Bevan addressed the situation today with the following statement: “Reports that Hugh Grant has exited Bridget Jones’s Baby are untrue. We are still working on the script hence the delay to the start of production, but the film is going ahead as planned.”

For God’s sake, don’t make this movie. The first Bridget was sublime–a GREAT classic, romantic comedy. In fact, I question whether there’s been a better romcom, since.
The second Bridget was a steaming pile of crap, embarrassing for everyone involved.
Just…leave it alone, while we still have fond memories of the first film. Zellweger is in her 40′s, Firth and Grant are in their 50′s (!). It ain’t gonna be cute anymore.
I’m sorry, I just do not know why they are making the film. I don’t care how good the script is (and the indications are that it isn’t good at all), but who wants to watch this thing, really? Yes, Zellweger’s career has been mismanaged, but at least some of that is down to the fact that her screen presence just isn’t that compelling. If it wasn’t for ‘Jerry Maguire,’ she would have spent her entire career playing supporting roles, being the ‘best friend’ to the Sandra Bullock character or whatever. I still think that would have been a more natural trajectory for her. I find her antic and annoying on screen. More to the point: How much money is thing going to make? Let’s talk opening weekend. What will the domestic gross be? I can’t see this being a kind of S&TC (although maybe, like that film’s sequel, it will clean up in international – is this what Working Title is banking on?) or Mamma Mia! phenom. Zellweger is cold right now, the male audience is ruled out for the most part, and younger females too. So that leaves international, where Firth and Grant are at least draws. I’m guessing they must be keeping the cost of this down (back-ends for the three stars?) and have some kind of strategy worked out. And maybe it will do well on cable and VOD, have a solid afterlife. But, my question stands: Does anyone want to watch this thing? Why bother going to all this trouble? Basic Instinct 2, anyone?
why even go there? Her eggs are fried by now. At this point they are all too old for this
And therein lies the humour perhaps? Anyway why not follow it up? Battleship anyone?
