EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing that Anchor Bay is negotiating a distribution deal on the SXSW Midnight title Girls Against Boys. The controversial thriller stars Nicole LaLiberte and Danielle Panabaker as two bartenders who get revenge against men who abused them. The film was written and directed by Austin Chick and produced by Clay Floren and Aimee Shieh. Paradigm repped the film. Here are several scenes, which I ran Sunday:

Congrats, Aimee and Clay!
Would it be in poor taste to respond to these scenes by trying to direct people to Truffaut’s THE BRIDE WORE BLACK instead? It’s witty, cast with spectacular actors, and is about 95% less self-important.
Anyone know any numbers on this?
Anchor Bay seems to be Paradigm’s one and only distribution relationship.
Awesome news! Congrats to Aimee and Clay!

A revenge story is only as good as the motive for the character that is attempting to seek revenge
What motivates these two women to torture these men?
This trailer makes the film seem like snuff…and I dislike the characters because they appear to be cold blooded killers.
Danielle Panabaker is a great young actress but these clips are boring and don’t really reveal anything, or showcase her DOING anything except weilding a gun and swinging it. They’re not enticing and make you think the whole film is a yawn…
Pretty disappointing…!
I agree, the clips don’t reveal much but I’m pretty sure that in anticipation of a film of this nature, the last thing they want to do is spoil the scarier/gorier, more suspenseful scenes. An exec from my studio was in attendance and said the film totally delivered (people were freaking out in their seats but I also heard that it was darkly comedic in places). There were multiple offers over the weekend so I’m not surprised that the film sold so quickly…
So far, this is one of the worst films I’ve seen at SXSW. I almost walked out, but ended up staying to the end. It looks terrific (the cinematographer does a great job of making this production look way more expensive than it actually was), but it’s all style over substance. I hated the leads and never cared at all what happened to them. If you find yourself rooting for the lead actress to be re-raped, you’re probably doing it wrong.
