UPDATED: Warner Bros Domestic TV Distribution has sold comedy series The Middle in off-network cable and broadcast syndication for a fall 2013 launch. On the cable side, ABC Family has picked up rights to the comedy, which airs on sibling ABC. On the broadcast side, the series has been sold in more than 92% of the country to stations owned by Tribune, Sinclair and CBS, among others. Despite often being in the shadow of Modern Family, with which it launched and runs in the same Wednesday ABC comedy block, The Middle has held its own in the anchor 8 PM slot, steadily growing in the ratings. Season-to-date, the comedy starring Patricia Heaton is up vs. last season by 3% in total viewers and 8% in adults 18-49 after also posting gains in Season 2. With the deal, The Middle, produced by Warner Bros TV, joins Modern Family, which was sold to USA in summer 2010. In its announcement, WBDTD stressed The Middle‘s solid repeatability, noting that the show retains 65% of its adults 25-54 audience while in repeats — more than ABC companion Modern Family and competitors The Big Bang Theory and Two And A Half Men on CBS, the three comedies with the biggest syndication deals.

Excellent move by ABC Fam!
Love The Middle!!
The Middle is a great comedy. Congratulations.
Horrendous show, but good for WBTV.
This show is great. Humor is clean and the acting is very good. This show relaxes me after a hard day of work.
Wow, talk about bad timing. Patricia Heaton is forever linked with Rush Limbaugh’s toxic anti-woman statements. I bet ABC Family and the stations would pass on “The Middle” if they could.
Great news. I just love the Middle – the writing is superb. I don’t know who could not like it.
I’m a little surprised this is from ABC Family because the show doesn’t really fit its network. Don’t be fooled by the Family name in the network. But hey hopefully this is a sign the network is getting away from the horrible teen drama crap (that doesn’t even count as family entertainment) and get back to good old family shows. If they want to continue with this thread I suggest picking up Parenthood
Maybe I’ll rip off Malcolm in the Middle and rake in a syndication jackpot, too.
They better sell the show quick before Heaton’s moronic political activities scuttle the whole deal.
I just gave up on the The Middle due to the ignorant hate that Patricia Heaton conjures. There’s already so much hate in the world, why add to it? Potty-mouth Patty is a public figure, and attacking and vilifying a young female college student just adds more hate to what Rush has already created. Potty-mouth Patty’s cool, open-minded on-screen persona was simply poisoned by the actress playing the role. I’m skipping The Middle.
