ABC has picked up Duets, a singing competition starring Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke. On the show, Clarkson, Nettles, Richie and Thicke will individually travel across America looking for undiscovered talent. Ultimately, each star will choose two singers to be his/her duet partners. Together the mentors and their protégés will take the stage each week and perform in front of a live studio audience. In the end, one of the pairs will win, with the amateur getting a recording contract with Hollywood Records. Duets is executive produced by Robert Deaton, while Charles Wachter is co-executive producing. With Duets, ABC is throwing its hat into the music competition series ring. The network joins the CW, which also has a summer singing competition series, the Queen Latifah-produced Star Next Door, where mentors, including Gloria Estefan and John Rich, will each travel the country looking for undiscovered talent. Duets is listed as an original series though there have been similar series airing internationally. In the U.S., Fox aired Celebrity Duets, executive produced by Simon Cowell, in summer 2007. With Duets, Clarkson returns to summer reality series where she rose to fame on the first season of American Idol.

And thus, ABC reasserts itself as a creative network giant…LOL.
I watched tonight and was appalled at the attire! Please somebody dress both the contestants and the stars – so bad!
Isn’t Jennifer Nettles too busy blaming victims for not protecting themselves from the Indiana stage collapse? I was a fan but sorry, I won’t be watching.
Jeeeez…. enough with the singing already. Gawd!
ENOUGH WITH THE SINGING COMPETISHES..IM READY TO BOYCOTT ALL OF THEM SOON…INTERSTING THAT 3 OF THESE CELEBS APPEARED ON THIS WEEKS THE VOICE
Is it mere coincidence that Clarkson, Richie, and Thicke are to Steve as mentors on The Voice this season? My apologies to Ms. Nettles. I’m not familiar with her, but she may also appear on The Voice this season.
Ms. Nettles is famous for being 1/2 of the duo SugarLand.
Its during the summer, many people won’t have anything else to do. #Illbewatching
“#Illbewatching”
Two things Dave.
1. You’re part of the problem.
2. Get over the hashtags.
STOP STOP STOP, can you networks have ever do something different!!!!! No one wants to lead. You Networks better see if you can buy the entire Internet, cause that’s where the eyes balls are gonna wind up.
Guess they forgot about that tiny disaster “From Justin to Kelly” ??
Wait for summer 2013 and CBS’s “Trios”.
Singing and so-called talent shows are signs of non-creative executives who program based on Excel spreadsheets. Let’s see some real programming, suits.
It’s a shame that a creative business is run by number crunchers.
Too bad I really like these singers and they decided to do a show like this. I don’t have high hopes for it.
Obviously you guys in LA are all jaded morons that don’t care to pay attention to Kelly,Robin and Jennifer’s fan base because they have ridiculously huge followings and I’m one of thousands who love them in the Midwest and we’ve learned out here you make TV for US because we’re all unemployed and bored stiff with nothing to do and want to watch something inspirational with our favorite NICE stars. So go re-read your rating sheets and remember who is really the pay check for the West Coast Entertainment Industry. Thank you ABC!
Had no idea unemployment had this impact on midwest folks. Sure hope you all have DVR’s so you can keep the television pipeline humming to fill your free time.
Perhaps, you could move your favorite stars to the midwest along with this and other equally lame shows thus creating new employment opportunities.
Okay I will go with your logic that the West Coast makes TV for Middle America. And that we should cater to your taste and whims.
And we have:
Duets
1) The Voice
2) X-Factor
3) American Idol
4) The Star Next door
5) The Glee Project on Oxygen
6) Diddy’s Making the Band
7) America’s Got Talent
9) The Sing Off
10) The Singing Bee
11) Glee “shades of a singing competition show”
12) Smash “shades of a singing competition show”
13) Star Search
But how are we Jaded? As you mentioned we make TV for you, the above shows are a reflection of you. Some of us, maybe most of us in LA would LOVE to give you something more, something better, something progressive… But we understand that you want common denominator type of programming.
Weren’t they just on The Voice, I hope this fails b/c ABC is a complete failure within itself and doesn’t deserve a new monster hit.
When is enough enough of these musical reality shows? First, you have the talk shows, then the court shows, then the self-help shows and then the game shows and now this. Seriously, can’t the networks come up with better options than reality shows?
I think that some of the attraction of shows like these is that it’s the “American Dream” to be discovered and get your chance at fame and fortune. I think it would be a travesty of justice to deny someone of a chance of seeing their dreams come true.
