t was hailed as a potential successor to Desperate Housewives and was launched behind the departing veteran dramedy. Now ABC’s midseason dramedy GCB will test drive Housewives‘ Sunday 9 PM time slot. On April 8, ABC will air two back-to-back originals of GCB, one at 9 PM and one at 10 PM, instead of the originally scheduled one in the show’s regular 10 PM slot. The tryout won’t be in a realistic environment as it will follow a Once Upon A Time rerun, but it will probably still inform ABC’s decision whether GCB would be a viable contender to replace Housewives next season. The network originally planned to have an original Housewives and GCB swap places for a night, but the idea didn’t come to pass because Housewives‘ recent episodes have dealt with a major plot development: the death of Mike Delfino (James Denton). The networks use the down spring time to experiment with scheduling moves. CBS is testing a two-hour comedy block on Thursday and The Mentalist on Friday.

The show is bonkers & completely over the top but i like seeing Annie Potts & Kristin Chenoweth each week.
Well, shoot. I kinda liked that show! It was nice to see the bullies getting a piece of their own medicine!
Why The heck didn’t ABC test PAN AM at 9pm?!!
I agree. Wish they had moved it around. It was never a 10pm show.
My thoughts exactly. They should have put the last season of Desperate Housewives at 10pm from the beginning.
What a surprise. Not.
oh thank god. with game of thrones and the killing coming back this week in that time slot i’ll be sure to avoid flipping this on by mistake.
Guys!!! Ever hear of spoiler alert???!!! Why give a major plot point when talking about ratings? Some people haven’t watched this season yet.
Well, why not?
1. If ABC was testing GCB for the 9pm slot, they CERTAINLY wouldn’t air a repeat of Once Upon a Time.
2. There are extra episodes of GCB that the network needs to air, they’re simply speeding up the process.
3. September-May series such as Desperate Housewives usually go on hiatus in April, which is why GCB is occupying the slot for the week.
The CBS thing was legit. They try out shows in different timeslots every year. But this… I mean, the logic behind this article is phenomenal. Yes, ABC will get some info on GCB as a potential contender for the 9pm slot, but c’mon, the show barely manages a 2.0 rating. I’d be surprised if it managed to do it without a lead-in and during a much more competitive hour.
GCB – This is an hilarious, side hurting show. The network’s decision to select seasoned actors to fill the starring roles is a homage to those who have spent years practicing the craft. EXCELLENT SHOW ABC…Please, Please, Please….Do not sent it to the one season survival shows in TV Land or into oblivion…Unhappy Viewer!!!!
i love GCB please dont take it off. every show i like is being cancled, give gcb another chance it is a good show great actors, first my desperate housewives goes now gcb im done watching abc.
I agree there are tooooooooooooo many dramas on tv LOVE LOVE LOVE The GCB look forward to it every week. Give it another chance! So many stories yet to be told. Did Amanda hubby really Die? She saw the body but with all that money he surly had someone in his pocket. What about Cricket and this new man? and her newly purchased business Losing weight with Jesus? Many many stories to be written.
PLEASE I BEG U…………… Give it another chance.
really take away the one thing that made many women laugh! all the drama was awesome cause we were not in it!!!! plz bring it back! (gcb)
Why? Why did you cancel GCB? That was a funny show and in this world today, we all need a little laughter. I can’t believe you would cancel a show that is just starting. Talk about not being given a chance. Wow, glad I don’t work for you. I would never have a chance to prove myself before I was left go.
Way to go, another good show bits the dust.
That’s the kiss-of-death spot. Anyone that has cable/sat will be watching HBO/Showtime/Starz.
Indeed. Mad Men and Game of Thrones will steal all of those GCB fans!!
They also have to do a 2-hour GCB on April 8 if they want to air all 10 episodes before the end of the season, since the show will be pre-empted on April 22 (2-hour Hallmark movie), May 13 (2-hour Housewives finale) and May 20 (Billboard Awards).
The show’s ratings have been surprisingly consistent. It got 2.2 for the premiere, then went up to 2.3 in week 2 (most new shows these days don’t go up in week 2), fell to 2.0 in week 3, then went up again to 2.1 in week 4 (average so far – 2.15).
By contrast, “Pan Am” (which of course won’t be back) began at 3.1, but fell below 2.0 by week 3 and never recovered (penultimate episode was series low 0.7).
The GCB episodes that air on April 8 (2 hours, “Once Upon a Time” repeat lead-in), April 15 (“Titanic” mini-series conclusion lead-in) and April 29 (coming back after a week off) will show if GCB is a keeper or not.
what i think there going to do is air an repeat maybe than a new one at 10pm thats why there going to test how gcb is going do on that timeslot so they can see if they can go more than 2.0 million and maybe a potential time slot for gcb next fall.
Oh my gosh! So true!!!
Ryan, I could understand the spoiler alert if its this weeks episode, but this happened a while back.
Its not really fair to expect the them to keep an entire season off the internet.
BTW,Bree and Lynnette get “together”.
Wow. Was that a completely unnecessary spoiler for a show that the article wasn’t even about?
@Jim,before offering Ryan advice, you should get your facts straight:It’s “Tom”and Lynette get together. If Mrs.Vandecamp &Mrs. Scalvo got “together”-that would be a totally different episode-I’d definitely watch that. I do agree about the spoiler thing. But,Nellie could have just said “a major plot development”without mentioning what it was exactly. I also watched that episode later,as do many fans with dvrs. Many fans have not watched it yet. As far as GCB, I think when CBS experimented with The Mentalist-they did it to test it out at another time & another night. But,what Abc’s doing with GCB is burning off the episodes trying to get rid of it as soon as possible-IMHO. The only possible thing on that show is Annie Potts, but, regardless of that-I don’t see GCB being retained for fall.
only *positive*thing-sorry
CBS: you guys/gals are way off base. When will you learn. Playing musical chairs with good shows; duh. Moving The Mentalist to Fridays is REALLY DUMB. It’s gotten so that, no matter what station, viewers just cannot keep up with all these moving targets. Try staying put for a change so people can find you. Ask yourselves – may be too simple of a concept for ya all – if you went into your favorite grocery stores and they moved products to different aisles ever few weeks… Well, hope you get the SIMPLE picture. Then again, most likely, not. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
It’s NOT a spoiler! It happened a few weeks ago. A spoils is telling something before it happens or an east coast showing/report on something before it airs on west coast (example-singer eliminated on Idol).
Here are some other ‘spoilers’ for you: rosebud is a sled, only the kid can see Bruce willis because he’s dead, Sue Ellen’s sister Kristin shot JR, Darth Vader is Luke’s father and Santa Claus isn’t real.
It IS an spoiler. It’s a major death, and it only happened a few weeks ago. Some people are behind on the episodes, some people don’t live in the US, so the episode hasn’t aired yet.
And I can’t be mad to be spoiled about a show that aired 30 years ago, but you revealing who shot JR just because iwas completely unnecessary.
I was just getting to the episode, thank you very much =)
It’s your responsibility not to be behind on episodes. Nobody should babysit you.
it is a spoiler
i’m behind 5 seasons!
I tried to give GCB a chance — but the characters and story lines are just not likable or enough to keep me watching. I say ABC should Try Revenge on Sundays, so it can really explode and devious maids here. GCB should be gone.
I’ve had enough of people trashing these playful dramedies. Not everyone wants to see The Killing or Sons of Anarchy or Game of Thrones. I’d rather see Donna Mills die by choking on a rib than witness a man getting slaughtered with a sword.
Agree. Love to laugh during GCB just because you never know what off the wall thing is going to happen. Its fun. A person can only take so much gore. And I’m bored with all the reality shows. I enjoy all the CSI type shows but whats wrong with some simple entertainment.
Agreed. GCB was very fun to watch! The entire cast was hilarious, it really is a great show. So disappointed.
I do agree, my husband & I have not missed an episode of GCB. We love it. We watch CSI, Castle, Scandel, Person of Interest, Survivor, Criminal Minds, Two Broke Girls and even Big Bang Theory, along with quite a few others. GCB is one of our favorites. After all varity is the spice of life. There needs to be something out there for everyone and as these post show GCB has quite a few fans. ABC please listen to us and at least give it one more season to really see what is going to do. I am sure that there are alot of viewers that haven’t discovered it yet.
PLEASE………….
Eh, ABC should cancel CGB and pair up OUAT (please excuse the alphabet soup) with one of their fantasy-soap pilots in development. Either Beauty & the Beast or 666 Park Avenue would be compatible.
ABC is desperate for this show to succeed as they really don’t have a hell of a lot in their pipeline for Sundays, possibly now that Pan Am will be CXLed and DH is finally done and over with. This show should also join the ranks with them as GCB is just plain awful and forcing itself to be humorous which fails a lot.
Because Pan Am sucked.
I really wished they had moved PanAm to 9pm.
The cast on that show was great! The story lines needed some help but the potential was and IS still there!
Wow! I live in Dallas and this show is “right on” the mark! Finally a program that allows all us to take a look at a level of society that exists in every metropolitan area each with unique but similar characters and situations. Please, please continue the series and give it a prime time TV slot!!!! A real winner!
What is with the horrid music piped in and louder than the normal background. This show was an atrocity, thank God I had alternatives. Keep Housewives and dump this giddy, jiggly, mindless crap.
I think gcb was a great show, some of the other like community should have been cut a long time ago,and ringer was very good I just dont think they gave it enough of a chance or time, bad move if u ask me!!! speaking of which I think they should poll the viewers to get our opinion before they make the decision to cut a show after all were the ones watching right!!
I liked GCB. It was funny. I can catch the rerun of Game of Thrones anytime. It sure beats those dumb dancing with the stars and bachlor/bachlorette shows. Sick and tired of them.
