Aidan Quinn is set to co-star opposite Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu in CBS’ drama pilot Elementary. The project, written by Robert Doherty, is set in present day and stars Miller as eccentric Brit Sherlock Holmes, a former consultant to Scotland Yard whose addiction problems led him to a rehab center in New York City. Just out of rehab, Holmes now lives in Brooklyn with “sober companion” Joan Watson (Liu) while consulting for the NYPD. Quinn will play NYPD Captain Gregson who worked with Sherlock at Scotland Yard after 9/11 and was so impressed with his work that he has invited him to work as a consultant to the police in New York City. Gregson grew accustomed to Sherlock’s “eccentricities” in the U.K., but knows they won’t necessarily fly in the Big Apple. Michael Cuesta is directing the pilot, produced by CBS TV Studios and Timberman/Beverly. Quinn most recently played an NYPD detective on another primetime drama, NBC’s Prime Suspect.

Somehow Elementary just doesn’t sound right. Holmes with a female companion and out of rehab in NYC. This is a joke right. Please tell me someone wasn’t paid to come up with this “original” idea.
You expect original ideas on CBS?
Love Liu, but this won’t come close to the BBC’s version with Cumberbatch.
I doubt the Sherlock Holmes pilot goes to series. The other pilots CBS has seem to be more interesting. We don’t need another Sherlock Holmes franchise right now. Had this been made, 10 years ago, with the Josh Friedman version of Elementary being the source, then maybe I’d be more receptive but at this point, I really doubt this show goes to series.
Its insulting to think they could even come close to the superb Sherlock. Cumberbatch is one of the greatest actors in the world.
Make it that Sherlock has addiction problems because he’s been brought from the 19th century and is unable to cope with modern times and I’m in.
They’re chopping, pushing, and substituting so much that they’ve pretty well shredded anything of value in the underlying concept.
*sigh* Rubbish is still rubbish no matter how many big shot names they put in the series to make it more attractive to the public.
This looks set to be even worse than the pathetic US version of Life on Mars.
Oh my… who needs THAT after the excellent “Sherlock Holmes”??? And Liu as Watson… yeah, right.
