Animal Planet has promoted Charlie Foley to SVP and head of development. He will continue to report to Animal Planet president and general manager Marjorie Kaplan. Additionally, the network has brought in two development executives as VP to work under Foley: Kurt Tondorf from Optomen Prods. and Andy Berg from A&E/Bio.

Wow. When “development” executives are multiplying within the corridors of THE ANIMAL PLANET, there is really something wrong with this business.
WGA members don’t need or want “creative” execs or “development” execs to water down and homogenize our work and ideas. We don’t need 100 producers and executive chefs meddling in our kitchens. We are sick of development, which is ruining this business.
These legions of execs should at least be made to take a standardized reading comprehension exam.
All it takes right now to become a development executive in TV or features is the willingness to work for peanuts for a while and answer phones, then you somehow are qualified for a job working with writers and developing written material?
The system is so, so broken.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
andy berg is the most even and thoughtful executive out there–I wondered where he was…!
Not sure I agree with the rage against the machine comment–all three of these guys appear to have Emmy recognition as writers/producers.
