EXCLUSIVE: Twilight‘s Billy Burke will play the lead in NBC’s untitled JJ Abrams/Eric Kripke drama pilot (form. Revolution), directed by Jon Favreau. The high-octane action drama follows a group of people struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist. Burke was originally cast three weeks ago in the supporting role of Bass, a charismatic Marine. Meanwhile, the extensive search for an actor to play the lead, Miles, an amazingly resourceful man with dark and dangerous side, continued even after the pilot went into production last week. Then over the weekend, the producers decided to get Burke to play Miles. His new deal is now being worked out while the role of Bass is being recast. Burke, repped by Gersh and Ellen Meyer Management, is best known for playing Bella Swan’s father in the Twilight Saga franchise.

“a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.”
Going to be pretty dull series then, considering the human brain’s use of electricity.
Thanks, Caged Wisdom, I’ve been saying this for a while. I imagine the show is going to be a silent, black image, as light and sound are forms of energy.
Here’s an older description that makes a lot more sense: “In this epic adventure thriller, a family struggles to reunite in a post-apocalyptic American landscape: a world of empty cities, local militias and heroic freedom fighters, where every single piece of technology — computers, planes, cars, phones, even lights — has mysteriously blacked out … forever.”
Sorry this is just another “Event.”
DOA
This is nothing close to THE EVENT. More like a better version of THE ROAD, or even THE WALKING DEAD except without the zombies. It’s one of the better pilots out there, which isn’t surprising considering its pedigree.
Yeah, I’m thinking “TWD without the zombies” too.
Whether this idea works without zombies – or some other dire threat to focus the drama – is another matter. Maybe there is a zombie-substitute in the offing, they’re saving it as a surprise?
The biggest part of this story is that its almost April 1st and they haven’t shot a frame. Either this goes straight to series or its rolled to mid-season.
Why would you write something when you don’t have any idea what you’re talking about? I’m in Atlanta, Georgia, where the pilot has been in production – meaning filming motion pictures, with actual cameras – for close to two weeks. Even the text of the post you’re commenting on says as much. Sheesh. It’s as if some people want to say something negative so badly they’ll just make shit up.
yeah it was funny the first 100 times (i said it too)…its obviously just a badly worded log line. i’m hoping for the best despite all these script and production problems. i just don’t think favreau would have gotten involved if it wasn’t awesome.
I think it will be more along the lines of “Afterworld”, the animated web series.
Sounds like walking dead but with energy instead of zombies.
Anyone know if he is related to JJ’s head of production, Bryan Burke?
How about if the show goes to series, you watch the first episode before you start making assumptions about what it is. How can you say it is going to be the next Event if you haven’t even been on the set, read a script, etc.?
I read “series” + JJ Abrams + “mysteriously” + “dark and dangerous amazingly resoursceful man” and I’m already tired and thinking it’ll be as lame as Undercovers, Person of Interest and Alcatraz.
It’s going to be the sh-t all over again. Go back to Alias and Felicity.
sorry, meant to say “same sh-t” all over again.
Anything that I have seen Billy Burke play in has an upside. He’s a great actor and some just like to be negative. Whether the show is a hit or not, having Billy Burke in it has to make it better! Good luck with the show!
