Management-production companies Caliber Media Co and Benderspink have teamed with Simplicity Media to launch an experimental feature film and social media project. Called Bloodloss, the concept is to stage a full-scale production within the modern-day subculture of “sanguine vampires”, a close-knit community with a spiritual obsession to drink human blood to maintain physical health. The feature narrative will be constructed from pseudo-documentary scenes using a combination of actors and true participants in this lifestyle (both human vampires and their blood donors) shot in real vampire-fetish nightclubs. A social media campaign of status updates, blog entries, and video posts will allow viewers to receive daily updates on Bloodloss, while being directly engaged with each character and their experience in this dark world.
The film will be produced by Simplicity Media’s Les Lukacs and Amanda Cryer and Caliber Media’s Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller. JC Spink, Chris Bender, Chris Cosmos, and Jake Weiner will executive produce for Benderspink. Brad Jensen and award-winning VFX supervisor Rik Shorten will also serve in a co-producing capacity. Casting is underway, and a director will be set shortly.
Caliber-repped scribe Jason Dolan conceived the current version of the project with the producers and did a page-one rewrite to the original script by Jeffery Potts. Bloodloss focuses on a documentary television producer as she investigates her sister’s sudden disappearance into an underground culture of self-proclaimed “vampires” in Los Angeles. As she discovers how these people actually live, their world of sex and drugs is beyond any addiction she has ever experienced. “While there is no actual evidence that vampires exist in our world today, there are those who are attracted to and choose to live the predatory lifestyle of the vampire regardless of the consequences,” Cryer said.
I’m more of a zombie man myself, but this sounds catchy if a bit depraved.

It should just be a documentary. That would work. Find willing participants to follow and just watch their interactions, their behavior, and how to they function in the world as a vampire. No need to interlace a fictional story. Unless you want to follow the werewolf crowds too. LOL.
Not sure how they will pull this off, but sounds really cool and promising.
I had a friend of mine who spent some time in this sub-culture. He brought me along a few times.
I found the majority of the players to be very annoying and whiny. I hope they take some serious artistic license with this, but what do I know – my mom gave me plenty of hugs growing up.
Sounds incredible – so scary/intriguing/sexy!!
i’ve been thinking… vampires might become a big thing.
“Experimental social media project.”
“Status updates, blog entries and video posts.”
Bloodloss will have the online presence of your average fourteen year old. I’m looking forward to this boundaries pushing project. Do you think they’ll even have their own Tumblr?
ok, now this is something different. That alone is a shock
Sounds like Katherine Ramsland’s nonfiction book, Piercing the Darkness? http://www.amazon.com/dp/0061059455/
I loved Enter Nowhere, so I’m sure the story for this movie will be just as awesome!
So proud of my friend Amanda and “team”…..sounds very interesting and relative to all the “Vampire” craze in film and T.V. currently….it’ll be interesting to see!
Sounds incredible!
vampires. never gets old. see what i did there?
Sounds pretty stupid. Know a couple of the people in this there is no way they can make it cool.
This documentary sounds like a documentary on blood-fetishists, not vampires, seeing as it’s to be filmed in “vampire fetish nightclubs”. Though I reckon there is plenty of crossover between vampire lifestylers and blood-fetishists.
I am interested in how they explain the blood-drinking as a “spiritual obsession,” seeing as while some vamps consider it to be spiritual, none that I know of have referred to it as an obsession. I hope they don’t lose sight of explaining that amid the sex, drugs, and blood.
I read the current script, which is admittedly preliminary, but unspeakably bad – on every level. It is not funny, sexy, scary, stylish or entertaining in any way shape or form. But again, an early iteration.
Wow! Heavy hitters for one. Very cool concept actually. Sounds like they are really taking a concept like vampires that has been out there a bit, to a very unique place. And Bender Spink has done some serious films like The Ring and Hangover, so If they are involved that has my attention. Looking forward to seeing this one.
I’ve never really been into the “vampire” stuff – twilight, true blood, etc. But real life vampires? I’m intrigued … I need to check this one out!
Not usually a vampire fan, but this sounds like it has potential. And if it’s even half as sexy as The Hunger,I really want to see it.
This definitely sounds like a must see!! I’m intrigued by the sheer thought of watching someone act their life out as a vampire. What goes through the minds of someone who truly believes they are one. Can’t wait to find out!
Very interesting!! I’d like to find out how the vampire’s lifestyle impacts their family and friends. Assuming that it would be difficult to maintain, I wonder what is required to maintain the lifestyle of a vampire. Sounds like a great documentary in the making.
Wow. Sex, drugs AND vampires?? That is “so” original.
Looks like an absolute sham to me. I doubt that they have any interest in our real culture. I believe this is nothing more than some jerkwad trying to trick young or ignorant vampires into making a quick buck for them.
