Britney Spears will likely fill one of the vacant mentor/judge seats next to Simon Cowell on The X Factor. I have learned that, following an overture by Cowell and an initial discussion, the pop star has received a $10 million offer to join the second season of Fox’s singing competition. The recruitment of Spears would bring the star power Cowell & Co. had been looking for after their decision to replace first-season X Factor judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. The offer also would catapult Spears to the top tier of reality series talent as it is in line with what Spears’ former Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cohort Christina Aguilera will be making on the third season of The Voice and just below the $12 million Jennifer Lopez received on American Idol last season.
The offer comes on the heels of a couple of public statements by Cowell in which he has been effusive in his praise for the Toxic singer as a prospective X Factor judge. “Are we flattered there would be interest from Britney Spears? Yes,” he said during a conference call two weeks ago. During a radio interview with Billy Bush last week, Cowell went further. “I’m fascinated by Britney,” he said. “The fact that she’s one of the most talked about — not just pop stars but people — in the world today, means that you’ve got this star power. This girl has resilience. I would think that if she’s managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, (X Factor would be) a walk in the park. I would be fascinated to hear what she has to say. She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial. There’s a reason for that.”

I wonder if people will want to watch her. I guess so. I’m done even wanting to look. She just seems sort of sad. Sorry. I hope she’s doing okay. Just not for me. Thanks.
The original X Factor line up was weak to begin with, except for Simon Cowell, my guess is he thought he could carry it and didn’t want to part with $$ that could go into his pocket, now he is scrambling. I think Britney Spears is a good choice, for the next judges…
Dr Dre or Kanye West instead of LA Reid
Billy Joe from Green Day
L.A. Reid is considered the most prolific talent scouts/producers/executives in the industry. From his days at Solar Records to La Face Records and beyond, the guy knows talent and knows how to develop it. On the contrary, Dr. Dre is straight-up Rap. That’s it. He doesn’t even play an instrument. He’s just a programmer. Same is true with Kayne. These guys know rap (their brand of it).
Leave these big executive decisions to the people that know best, not to those who have a one-dimensonal take on music.
Man, her new husband is one big putz. I had lunch with him and all he could do was look around hoping the pap were taking pictures. I think he’s a real star fucker. He’s not good looking. And once divorced he’ll realize he threw away a fine career to be a putz. Bye bye.
I hope she accepts! She is worth more than $10 million though!
I’m actually really excited about Britney Spears for X-Factor. The show will be great for her, and she will be great for the show. It will give it some real pizazz. They should bring Paula Abdul back to surprise people as the 4th judge. I think they underestimated Paula’s appeal — although in the first season, she was definitely a bit of a dud. If they brought her back, she would rise to the occasion.
I may be alone, but I think X-Factor is 100 times better than The Voice, and much more interesting than the current incarnation of American Idol.
The fact that you’re, “really excited about Britney Spears for X-Factor.” makes me really sad for you.
Great get by Simon and X-Factor.
I. Love. Britney. Spears. I have since she burst on the scene in 1998. I will most certainly be watching season two of The X-Faxtor just to see Britney on my TV for a couple hours a week. This is the best news ever.
You say you love Britney Spears…but as a singer or a personalty? She has zero charisma and can barely form sentences. I think she might be a big draw to start the show, but she both literally and figuratively has nothing to say.
you shut up jay…you dont know what u saying about Britney…
I do agree with you on this one. She doesn’t have any kind of personality whatsoever for this kind of show, unlike Christina who gives a run for its money (like her or not).
Why. Do. You. Speak. This. Way?
Brilliant! Completely laughed out loud.
I would so watch her. She has turned her life around and this show could put her back in front of people to realize that she got her stuff together.
It would be a good move for her career. She isn’t exactly the hottest thing in music anymore, but this might give her a bit of a boost as it would allow her to be on TV every week. I don’t know how great of a judge she would be, but I’d be kind of interested to check the show out. I can already see those Britney vs. Christina headlines starting up again though.
She’ll sign – and I’m sure it will be for $12.5M to make the point.
She may be a big star, but can she actually string two sentences together to offer helpful and constructive advice to other performers? I kind of doubt it.
Doesn’t matter. She has exactly what the contestants on the show are supposed to have. All aspiring singers on that show would do anything to have her success.
Maybe if they lower her medication. She always looks dead in the eyes and can barely string two sentences together. I don’t believe this.
Who can hire the biggest dingbat? Simon loves America.
WHO THE F&$%K WOULD ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT BRITNEY IS WORTH LESS THAN J-LO? WOW!
good point, britney is worth way more than Jlo, I doubt this will hpapen though, it to me is way to cool
M – Four words – Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez!
Have to echo other comments here.. I haven’t seen her give a candid, coherent interview in the better part of a decade. Her last press tour was scripted from start to finish, pre-approved questions with pre-approved answers. She doesn’t even speak to her audience at her concerts, how is she supposed to offer real, genuine advice on live TV in front of millions?
So right. And the reason she doesn’t speak to her audience is because her mic is never on. I don’t dislike her or her music, but I did go to a concert and was truly in shock over how much she phoned it in.
Wellll…at least she’s sober, right? Uh, right? Seriously, Janet Jackson would rock on that show.
AMEN! Get Janet before Britney, in my opinion…. Hopefully their still considering Ms Jackson for the 4th slot. I think she’d be terrific – she’s been in the business since she was a toddler, has had much more consistent success than Britney over the course of her career, and has matured into a wise, educated professional who would be a great mentor to the contestants on the show. BRING IN JANET!!
What is wrong with you people that think she can actually sing? Does everyone need their hearing checked? It is astounding what passes for talent these days. Its like a parallel universe. She can barely dance and sing. That weird robotic voice…YUCK. What the hell happened to REAL musicians?!
Have people actually seen her speak? She comes off like an uneducated redneck. I’ll never forget that scene of her in Fahrenheit 9/11 of her smacking gum and saying “we just have to do what the President says…” in this obnoxious southern twang.
To be fair, she was 20 years old then, born in Louisiana, and it was a time when her drinking Coke instead of Pepsi gave her issues.
It was a silly answer to a question, but one that wouldn’t cause controversy in a time when anyone who spoke out against the War lost their careers for it.
I am not bothered by Britney. And if Randy Jackson can scream “DUDE! DOG! THE BOMB!” at contestants while not offering criticism, then I think Britney will be fine.
It’s a white trash show, so the choice is appropriate.
How many versions of “Kareoke Hour” can one stand? Don’t we already have 10 or so? Never watch any of them.
The only contestant show that requires intelligence of both the contestants and viewers is “Shark Tank”.
Wow Simon used to make stars–now he’s re-animating them. Fyi FOX/Kevin/Peter–these numbers do NOT make sense.
I love Britney and I wish her nothing but the best, but I wish she’d just go away. There’s a sadness to her and she just doesn’t seem interested in having a career anymore. Add that to the fact that she has had trouble forming coherent sentences since her breakdown, this is a bad idea.
X Factor is the poor man’s American Idol. Britney Spears is not going to give it the high ratings if she ends up judging.
If Simon didn’t like working with Paula and Nicole, Britney will drive him insane. But kudos to her for getting the role – I didn’t think she could get anyone to give her eight figures without her taking her clothes off at this point.
Doesn’t she lip sync her concerts?
Does she ever actually SING? She just lipsyncs-hard to give advice to aspiring singers
