Beijing/Los Angeles, March 27, 2012: Bruno Wu’s Seven Stars Film Studios has signed its second joint venture to create Allied Productions East with financier/producer Jake Eberts (‘GANDHI’, ‘DRIVING MISS DAISY’, ‘DANCES WITH WOLVES’, ‘A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT’, ‘CHICKEN RUN’).
Jake Eberts and Bruno Wu, Chairman of Seven Stars Global Entertainment (SSGE), the parent company of Seven Stars Film Studios; and CEO of Harvest Seven Stars Media Private Equity Ltd (HSSMPEG), will both act as principals in the company.
This news follows the recent launch of the $800 million HSSMPEG Fund which intends to invest across two distinct areas: mergers and acquisitions in the media field; and content creation. In addition the Fund will develop a multi-media marketing and distribution platform. The creation of content is the purview of Seven Stars Film Studios.
Allied Productions East will specifically focus on developing and financing content in the Asian market for Asian audiences, utilizing HSSMPEG’s distribution platform and Eberts’ producing acumen.
Development has commenced on the first Allied Productions East project, ‘MISSION BOYS’, with Erin Cressida Wilson (‘SECRETARY’) writing the story of 20 Chinese High School graduates arriving in the United States in the 1870s. Thrust into the highly competitive world of Yale and Harvard, they experience extraordinary cultural differences, with varying degrees of success.
On making the announcement, Bruno Wu commented “Jake Eberts’ name is synonomous with quality and epic size films. We are so proud to have the opportunity to collaborate with him making the kind of films that Jake has built his career on, with a distinctly Asian flavor.”
Jake Eberts added “Asia is a region with vast potential for stories that will resonate around the globe, as well as being home to over 4 billion potential consumers of filmed entertainment. I welcome the opportunity to be a part of the growth and development of Seven Stars, and to work with Bruno Wu and his team.”
This is the second of three high profile multi-million dollar collaborations with leading filmmakers to be consummated over the coming weeks by Seven Stars Film Studios. On 19th March 2012, Seven Stars announced the creation of its first joint venture, Perfect Storm Entertainment, with acclaimed director Justin Lin.

I am not trying to be a troll, but i honestly have never heard of Jake Eberts and I’ve been working in Hollywood for 15 years. I know of his films obviously but never heard of him. Regardless, good luck to all involved.
All you need to know about Jake Eberts you can read in his wonderful book “My Indecision Is Final”. He is a seminal figure in the independent film business. As for Bruno Wu…
Jake eberts has made some of the best independent films ever, created Goldcrest and Allied filmmakers, worked with Robert Redford, David Puttnam, backed movies like Chariots of Fire and Gandhi. His book is probably the best about independent filmmaking. If you want to produce movies outside of the studios you should read his book, I’ve just re-read it again this year and it’s just amazing. When people were making movies aiming for quality, inspiration, greatness… Not movies about kids killing each other or found footage movies. If only there were more jake eberts producing today…
well said. jake eberts is the man.
Never heard of Jake Eberts? I am reminded of the story of a development executive who murmured at the end of a big meeting that he had never heard of David Lean and a still remembered British literary agent said “well, then, my treasure, you should ask for a refund from that film school you went to”. Saying you never heard of someone is NEVER a good idea because you will only show your ignorance.
If you’ve never heard of him it’s because he’s the anti-Brian Grazer/Ryan Kavanaugh in terms of it’s never about him. He’s one of the producers I admire most in my 15 years of working in Hollywood. Has carved out a great career without having to live in Hollywood. Lives in London. A man of great respect, great reputation and won back to back Oscars for best picture, twice.
Charriots of Fire and Ghandi… and then a few years later, Driving Miss Daily and Dances With Wolves.
Good man.
