Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios has ordered 104 episodes of the new comedy The First Family, about an African-American family living in the White House. Their name is not Obama. Christopher P. Duncan (Veronica Mars) plays President William Johnson. He’s joined by singer Gladys Knight as his mother, Marla Gibbs (The Jeffersons) as the First Lady’s mother, comedian Paul Rodriguez as Dictator Rafael, Jackee Harry (Sister, Sister) as the First Lady’s sister and Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show) as First Lady Katherine Johnson. The series pilot was just completed. The First Family is set to debut this fall on broadcast syndication, cable and digital media.

Sounds like a good one. I’ll watch 4 sure.
Jackée & Marla Gibbs are BACK together! And as mother & daughter, no less! This show sounds like an instant HIT! Can’t wait to see it! Yeeeeeee!!!
They just filmed the pilot and got an order for 104 episodes? 104!?! What am I missing here or am I the only one that thinks it an abnormally high number?
Until the African American audience stops watching ****, they’ll keep giving us ****. Tyler Perry has created the paradigm for crap black TV productions
Well, that’s syndication for you. Woot woot!
No, you’re not the only one.
104 episodes. Is this burying the lede?
Wow 104 episodes, that is just ridiculous. I have never heard of such a thing before. Maybe except for 10 / 90 deal Anger Management got.
The messesd up thing is tgat this is based on Twilight fan fiction.
Looks like the cast is a lot bigger in the picture! Why did they forget to mention the very funny John Witherspoon who is pictured and we would like to know which actors play the 4 kids. The cast list is incomplete – at best.
Instead of the dignity of the Cosby Show, what do you bet we’ll get Tyler Perry-esque eyerolling, neo-minstrel, hip-hop antics a.k.a. what racists think is going on in the White House in real life, as we speak.
Correction: Christopher B. Duncan.
Co-starred in the Jamie Foxx show as Braxton P. Hartnabrig. Talented and gifted actor and hope this goes well for him.
Will watch and see what happens.
Tyler Perry is great with his television productions, especially House of Payne.
I think this show will be amazing! Every single [central] cast member is a part of television royalty. Jackée is an Emmy Award winner from “Another World”, “227″, “Sister, Sister”, and “Everybody Hates Chris”. Then you have her teaming back up again with the legendary Marla Gibbs of “The Jeffersons”, “227″, and “The Hughleys”. Music great Gladys Knight, John Witherspoon of “Friday” & “The Wayans Brothers”, Kellita Smith of “The Bernie Mac Show”…with Christopher Duncan of “The Jamie Foxx Show” and “Veronica Mars” as the President. ALL of these people are seasoned & celebrated actors. Let’s not question the series before even seeing it! I, for one, thank Byron Allen for having the good sense to create a series that showcases African Americans in what I’m sure will be a positive light. So try being supportive, instead of cynical!
I was going to make a joke about Tyler Perry, but I was beaten to the punchline.
I’m sure the 104-episode contract locks the actors into their low starting pay with few if any chances for a raise throughout the 104 episodes.
Definitely give this show a chance. I had the pleasure to work this pilot and it’s a good one. It’s not your chit-lin circuit sub-par comedy that a lot of African American shows fall victim too. It’s actually funny and the cast just happens to be Black. With that line up, they can say anything and it have you laughing. And they did. They will make 104 episodes and have an audience with no problem. I’m a witness, and also a fan already.
Wow! What haters – you haven’t even seen the pilot and you are finding fault.
It has nothing to do with hate…it’s just a bad idea, and yeah…it’ll suck
This show is 3 exits past irrelevent. Old humor. Worn out type casting. Jokes that don’t work. Please spare us this pain, and stop the taping.
