EXCLUSIVE: CAA has signed Chris Tucker, the Rush Hour star who returned to the screen after a five year absence to star with Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro in the David O Russell-directed The Silver Linings Playbook. Tucker had been repped by WME.
Tucker’s penchant for being selective and preferring to travel the world rather than make one movie after another like most stars, has knocked him off the star map somewhat. He has the opportunity to reestablish himself if he wants to. Tucker made one of the most meteoric salary jumps in Hollywood history when he went from a $3 million salary for Rush Hour to making $20 million against 20% of the gross. The three Rush Hour films grossed more than $800 million worldwide. Tucker has shown he’s adept at dramatic roles as well, in films like the Hughes Brothers-directed Dead Presidents and the Quentin Tarantino-directed Jackie Brown.
Tucker’s currently on a U.S. comedy tour, and I hope he decides to make movies again with more regularity, because he’s fun to watch. He continues to be represented by his longtime attorney Susan C. Adamson.

Given how much he owes in back taxes, you can expect him to start making movies again on a regular basis. I heard Friday 17 just got greenlit.
Chris is one of the funniest guys around. Can’t wait to see him on screen again. Hopefully CAA can lead him in the right direction and get him more screen time…provided he wants it.
He’s still alive?
Great. Now if he would just learn how to read…
As long as they don’t give him to Toth, he should do fine!
Which 3 letter agency collects his commissions: CAA or IRS?
I always thought Chris Tucker’s best two performances were:
RUBY RHOD in THE FIFTH ELEMENT – crazee over the top but fun!
His cameo as MJ’s sidekick in the “You Rock My World” video
Shoo-mah!
Dear Chris,
You should work with director Brian Robbins. He is a whiz with the careers of black comedians.
Tucker is the one and only reason I don’t watch The Fifth Element again. I loved everything else about it, but I hated his performance so much he ruined the movie as a viewing experience. If they had a version with him removed I would buy it yesterday. If they digitally replaced his character with Jar Jar I’d still buy it.
Chris Nolan for Chris Tucker. Fair trade.
His persona off screen is so different than his persona on screen. He has to turn on the Chris Tucker character when he needs to, putting on that squeaky high voice. When normally he’s serious and all business. He’s hilarious, though. He needs to make more movies more frequently.
Exactly! I was introduced to him once and he was so quiet and dignified, I thought it was a put-on. In person, Tucker is thoughtful and analytical, like a lawyer or something.
I mean a real lawyer, not an entertainment lawyer.
Your assessment of Chris is right on the money…I have worked with him in the past and his personality is perfect! I had so much fun working for him!
I’d like to see his grounded ‘the lawyer’ persona in a movie. He’s got calculating eyes – he doesn’t actually have to do too much.
‘hey – I’m home, I’m high….’
I hate that voice. I would love to see him act “normal” in a comedic role without relying on his gimmicky screeching.
It’s too late. His time has come and gone. When you’re hot, you need to ride the wave. Got too choosey and now that will never happen again.
On the flip side, he’s taken time out to travel the world and have some experiences outside Hollywood, so good for him. He’s living his life on his own terms and not letting fame guide his destiny.
There is no flipside. Chris wanted the 20 million dollar paydays but didn’t actually want to work. Why do you think he got so fat? Dude liked being paid a lot, but look at the resume. 2 movies in a decade? You don’t have to be Hollywood, Morgan Freeman lives in Mississippi. This dude cashed them checks, but the days of stardom are over. Better call Tyler Perry.
Nah, in Hollywood you can always make a comeback. Look at Travolta and Cruise.
I totally sympathize with the excitement to be a black man with money and want to tour the world instead of work. When u come from the inner city, you use everything to get out and never look back. He probably has some great stories now and better life experience that he would not trade for working back to back like Eddie Murphy: now he might have something to “say” as an artist:)
Good point. Eddie could have considered his example. Certain people have a hard time understanding that he just might have his own vision of himself and his role in the world. Seeing the world is a great place to start in realizing his personal potential.
This guy is beyond impossible. Ari took him around to all the studios, tried to put him in movie after movie after movie. Convinced the studios he was ready to work and engaged, had jobs lined up for big money. Chris wouldn’t take any of them. He just doesn’t get it.
Well, after five years, he’s probably seen most of the world. Time to get back to work and pay those bills.
CAA Signs Chris Tucker… to do what?
Sit around and wait for RUSH HOUR 4 so he can make a $20 million payday?
I don’t know why anybody would cater to him. If he doesn’t want to make movies, then leave him alone. Why beg him and try to convince him to work again? He’s good, but not that great.
It’s not like he’s Warren Beatty. Beatty has made classic movies and is very selective. Between the two, I’d rather see Beatty make some more movies than Chris Tucker.
My point is, I don’t think him signing with CAA will change his career one bit.
This is GREAT NEWS! I just recently watched ‘Friday’ with Ice T and Chris Tucker. He is such a unique talent.
