EXCLUSIVE: Matt Letscher has been tapped for a co-starring role in the CW pilot Carrie Diaries. The project, based on Candace Bushnell’s novel, chronicles Carrie Bradshaw’s (AnnaSophia Robb) coming of age in the 1980s when she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan.Letscher will plat Carrie’s father. The actor, repped by IFA and Sanders Armstrong Caserta, is recurring on two upcoming series, NBC’s Bent and ABC’s Scandal.
Sharon Leal has landed a co-starring role opposite Cuba Gooding Jr. in the Fox drama pilot Guilty, from Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti. The project, written by Guggenheim and to be directed by McG, centers on William “Billy” Weston (Gooding), a brilliant, morally questionable defense attorney who, after being falsely convicted of fraud and stripped of his legal license, uses his unorthodox methods to solve the cases he’s been prohibited from handling … and to exact revenge on those who set him up. Carrie Bradshaw is not supposed to have grown up in Manhattan, she came to New York when she was 21. Sad to see they’re rewriting her character’s history so they can make the new show more like Gossip Girl.
Carrie went to NY right after high school, before starting college, not at age 21. Did you read the books?
She lives in the suburbs and spends some time in the city in the novel.
Please Mark Pedowitz don’t let Dawn Ostorff’s previous execs convince you to order this pilot to series. Just give Gossip Girl a final 10 episode Season and STAY AWAY FROM THESE CRAPPY TEEN DRAMAS.
Leave the teen Dramas for ABC Family and focus on pilots like Beauty and the Beast, ARROW, CULT, SHELTER and The SELECTION.
And try to be open to half-hour comedies and not one-hour dramedies.
This is the worst idea since the bosom buddies reboot, Work It. Epic fail.
Matt Letscher is an underrated actor. I love him.
Carrie’s father left her when she was 5, and she spends her adult life asking questions about men. They said so in the first Vogue episode. How can they throw everything about such an iconic series to the wind? It only gets worse from here.
I actually clicked on this article so I could say the exact same thing. Glad I’m not the only one who noticed! I’ve been reading a lot about the new series online and people involved with the show have been saying things like- well we know people are going to be paying very close attention and we have big shoes to fill. I’m surprised they overlooked this one, or just didn’t care. Either way, I’m kind of afraid to see what they’ll mess up next…
The problem is the series is based on the book not the HBO series so the canon will be different. Another reason this is a bad idea with out it being a prequel to the celebrated series. Big mistake on the CW’s part.
I have liked Sharing Leak ever since Boston Public.
Matt Letscher is the best. Can’t wait to see him in Bent. Dr. Ben!
Matt Letscher just starred in the indie Teacher of the Year. He is having a great year. It is supposed to be hilarious. He is great!
