CBS has renewed daytime talk show The Talk for the 2012-13 season. The daily talker — hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler — will return for its third year in September. “We are thrilled with the evolution and growth of The Talk,” said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. After a slew of major changes on the show in front and behind the camera last year, including the exits of co-hosts Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete, things have been quiet on the personnel front for the last several months. Nationally, the second season of The Talk is averaging 2.16 million viewers, 1.0/6 in women 25-54 and 0.8 in women 18-49. A month ago it posted its largest audience, 2.45 million viewers, for the week ending Jan. 27.
In the recent February sweep, The Talk averaged 2.27 million viewers, 1.1/07 in women 25-54 and 0.9/05 in women 18-49. Vs. last February, the talk show was up 4% in viewers, 10% in women 25-54 and 13% in women 18-49. The Talk is executive produced by John Redmann and Sara Gilbert for CBS Television Studios.

Lets see why would they reach a high on Jan. 27? or Feb? Could it be beacause people had been used to turning to ABC at that time, until One Life to Live was gone and decided to turn to CBS? Cause lets face it at least the TALK is watchable unlike that show they put on ABC, even if it is a ripoff, that likewise replaced a much better scriped drama. The killing of the daytime dramas is what will result in the triumph of reality programing in the future. The executives do not realize that soaps are the repertory theatre of screen acting. Without them people who would be future stars lose valuable experience, and stars(especially former stars, with financial problems) lose a lucrative place they could descend to make ends meet. Where will the next Blair Underwood, Julianne Moore, Judith Light, Ryan Phillipe, Phylicia Rashad, Hayden Panettiere, Nathan Fillion, Amanda Seyfried, Josh Duhamel, Christian Slater, Laurence Fishburne, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Allison Janney, and many many others come from? Not from reality shows or talk shows!
This show is so boring with its characters so in love with themselves. I hate it. I stopped watching it when Lea Remini and Holy robinson left. I can’t believe it’s even still on. I guess there’s not much competition!
WE HATE THE TALK! BOOO!
Very glad to see that The Talk will be back for another season. Hoping the show stays on air indefinitely.
It only has high ratings because of the time slot. There is nothing else on at that time. I miss Leah and Holly. I hardly watch since they left. Only if a star I want to see is on. I watch that segment then turn it off. Not a fan of Cheryl Underwood. Love Mrs. O. The rest, well I would rather not say.
They renewed this drivel? It was so much better with Leah and Holly. I refuse to even watch until Sheryl is replaced.
Of course, it was renewed. Ms. Chen is married to the president of CBS.
It’s sad that I know too much about this show. The Talk is, to put it bluntly, a poor excuse for a talk show. Getting rid of Leah and Holly were the beginning of the worst decisions when they should have gotten rid of Sara and Julie, but we know why that couldn’t happen. Sheryl is the absolutely worst personality of daytime, and this comes from someone who is not a Sherri Shepherd fan. Is it too much to ask to come to the show prepared and not have to read everything off cards? Sara runs a close second, with zero personality and anything interesting to say. Julie has loosened up a bit since the show’s start, but still adds little. Aisha adds nothing, either. Her impromptu skills seemed to have deserted her and her interviewing skills are nil. Mrs. O is the only one with personality and the ability to work off-the-cuff. I’m sure it’s cheap to produce, but something is desperately needed to take the place of this afternoon drivel.
The Talk will keep on getting renewed til Julie Chen decides she doesn’t want to do it anymore. One advantage being married to the chairman of the network. I’m surprised it hasn’t become the Julie Chen show.
The 15 second promos are insufferable. How or why anyone would willingly sit through a full hour is beyond me.
I agree with Michelle, nothing else on at that time so the TV stays on till Dr. Phil at 3PM.
Mrs. O should have her own show with Leah and Holly, I miss them.
The ratings would skyrocket if they replaced that loud mouth, discusting Sherly, send her to Jerry Springer.
Cheryl Underwood was an inspired choice. I’m so glad they picked her. She’s very funny. I hope this show makes her the big, big star she deserves to be.
I agree with you Adam. I think if they give Sheryl the spotlight the show will definitely thrive. People like to laugh and that time slot has very little interesting competition. Informative comedy would be perfect.
This poor excuse of a “talk show” should not be renewed. I agree with above post that the promos are so awful….it’s enough to make anyone not want to watch the show.I agree that it is the “julie chen” show, with co hosts to prop her up. Her new idea to make “funny” faces is just pathetic. I peronally am sick of this drivel and think that cbs has made another programming mistake by leaving these poor women on the air to display their inadequacies.
Ghetto or not, the show was more entertaining and “real” when Holly and Leah were on.
Sherly’s use of profanity on 03/13/12, was offensive.
Bring back Leah…the current cast stinks! Show is so boring!
I agree- love Mrs O but please get rid of Sheryl – she is way too loud, most of the time NOT funny but is rude/often loudly interrupting with stupid interjections. Please producers, try to get Cheryl from the View !!! Has more class and is funny!!
I don’t know where to begin. The whole show is so over rated.
Aisha ( whatever her name is) is practically licking Julies face.
You can’t understand Sheryl at all, Sara is just plain boring.
Bring Back Holly & Get rid of Underwood!!!
This is a show that does nothing but gossip and degrade people. Like their opinion on everyone is important. I now turn it off right after it starts. Julie is self important, I hate the way they laugh at other people and leer over others. This show turns my stomach.
I am out!
I love the new co-hosts. I was glad to see Leah and Holly go. I have began watching the show daily. I think that it feels less forced. Hope it stays the way it is. By the way, Sarah has great input in my opinion.
get rid of Cheryl Underwood….pleeeessse
I love the show I think all the women jive even. Julie has certainly loosened up since it started. I loved Leah and Holly but Aisha and Cheryl are also good fit. Glad it was renewed.
