EXCLUSIVE: New Zealand actor Antony Starr has landed the lead in Banshee, Cinemax’s upcoming action drama series executive produced by Alan Ball. The 10-episode series, written by authors Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler, centers on Lucas Hood (Starr), an ex-convict and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, PA, where he continues his criminal activities even as he’s being hunted by the shadowy gangsters he had betrayed years earlier. Also cast in the pilot is Demetrius Grosse as Emmett Yawners, a deputy at the police department who was a former football player at Penn State.
Starr, who starred on the popular Australian series Outrageous Fortune, which was remade by ABC as Scoundrels, co-stars in the indie Wish You Were Here, which premiered at Sundance. The actor, repped by Paradigm and Impression Entertainment, will segue to Banshee after wrapping the Australian series Rush on April 2. Grosse, repped by Buchwald/Fortitude and Luber Roklin, just finished shooting 12 episodes of Justified‘s current season.

Outrageous Fortune was an popular New Zealand produced TV show.
Sadly, the world probably dosn’t understand your comment as they probably think New Zealand is IN Australia.
Outrageous Fortune is one of my favourite TV programmes of all time. It’s great to see Antony Starr getting some international screen time.
Emmett Yawners?
That may be one of the least appealing, least catchy names I’ve heard.
The role seemed perfect for someone like Josh Holloway since it’s basically Sawyer from LOST…but I’ll still give Starr a chance. Script is one of the best pilots of the upcoming season.
I was wondering when Antony Starr is going to get his own international leading role. He was in “After the Waterfall”. I think he can go far with the right movie and right director.
