The deal with Comedy Central is in addition to the pact Sony TV inked with Hulu in December to make all 3 seasons of Community available on the streaming service.
NEW YORK, March 14, 2012 – Greendale Community College’s most famous study group will have a new member beginning in 2013 (and it’s not Beetlejuice) as COMEDY CENTRAL has reached a multi-year deal with Sony Picture Television to license the critically-acclaimed comedy series “Community,” it was announced today by David Bernath, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy & Multiplatform Programming/Dean of Students for COMEDY CENTRAL and [Sony Pictures Television]. The all-comedy channel will launch the series with three seasons beginning in the fall of 2013.
“Within the chaos of the current media landscape we are fortunate that we live in a timeline where ‘Community’ comes to COMEDY CENTRAL,” said Bernath. “Our staff is celebrating with a game of paintball in the offices today.”
“Community is a perfect fit for the COMEDY CENTRAL audience,” added John Weiser, president, US distribution for Sony Pictures Television.

YES!! this is excellent. #sixseasonsandamovie
It lives! Though I’m surprised NBCU didn’t just shift it to one of their own cable channels instead.
You realize this is a syndication deal, right?
Since The Middle and Community have been sold into syndication, I suspect that Parks and Rec is next. Here’s to hoping it gets attached to a net like Oxygen (that could use a facelift) or TBS (where the show could be exposed to a new demographic)!
Will this help Community’s chances of being picked up for another season? Here’s hoping.
Looks like ‘Community’ will get it’s fourth season after all
This has to help its renewal chance, right? Or, does it have absolutely no impact on its cancellation/renewal outlook?
If Community sticks to it’s fall ratings pattern, then there most likely isn’t any worry since it’s average was well in line with NBC’s across the board average. Plus with this syndication deal, NBC will be even more likely to give it one more season.
NBC doesn’t own this show, SONY does. Syndication does nothing for NBC.
Actually, NBC does own a piece of it. Good to see the guys @ Sony get this one done.
Plus since being on hiatus, we can all see it’s NBC’s Thursday 8pm slot, not the show itself that’s the problem. As several networks begin to shift their comedies to Thursday night, I think the era of NBC Thursday Night Comedy is over; it’s time to find a new day.
Smart move Comedy Central
Good fit alongside the quirky comedies it already has syndication deals on (Always Sunny, Scrubs) and its own Workaholics.
This move just saved Community’s ass. I like it. Season 4, here it comes!
