EXCLUSIVE: Leonor Varela (Blade II) and Martin Donovan (Boss) are set to co-star in the CW’s drama pilot The Selection, which has been compared to The Hunger Games. Based on the upcoming series of books by Kiera Cass, The Selection is described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future. Written by Elizabeth Craft & Sarah Fain and directed by Mark Piznarski, it centers on America Singer (Aimee Teegarden), a poor young woman who is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to marry Prince Maxon (Ethan Peck) and become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads. Varela and Donovan will play Maxon’s parents, Queen Amberly and King Clarkson. Varela, repped by KLWGN, just wrapped a six-episode arc on TNT’s Dallas reboot. Donovan is with Buchwald/Fortitude and Parseghian Planco.

Damn, they are really going out of their way to hire credible actors instead of the revolving door of unknown Canadian actors we always see on The CW.
Good stuff.
Great casting choices. This looks like it is going to be a fun TV series. When they say it is similar to The Hunger Games, are they saying there will be fighting to the death? I thought I read that this was more like those reality TV series where the selected girls compete to become the next princess.
Absurdly good casting. The CW is really trying, it seems…
Credible, sure. Lenor is stunning and I’m over the moon that she isn’t 100% causasian. She’s almost brown-ish! I can’t wait to see who else they cast. I can’t wait to see how white everyone looks 300 years into the future lol. Please don’t make me puke in my mouth CW. I’m contaigeous.
Sounds good
I wish Kristin Kreuk would star in this instead of CW’s Beauty & The Beast Pilot. This looks super amazing. Sounds like a somewhat fresh idea!
