One of Desperate Housewives‘ original cast members will bid farewell to Wisteria Lane as a major character is being killed off this Sunday. Housewives line producer George Perkins let the news slip on the stand today while giving testimony in Nicolette Sheridan’s wrongful termination and battery suit in downtown LA. If you don’t want to know, don’t read further.
James Denton’s character Mike Delfino will be killed off this Sunday on the ABC series. He will be the most high-profile character killed off the show since Nicollette Sheridan’s Edie Britt character was eliminated in Spring 2009. Plaintiff’s attorney Patrick Mahoney asked Perkins on the stand this afternoon whether Sheridan’s character was the most high-profile one to be killed off, to which Perkins responded, “You mean up until today”? Housewives creator/executive producer Marc Cherry later smiled and gave a thumbs-up outside the courtroom when Deadline asked about the revelation. Ironically, Denton testified earlier in the day that he was constantly worried about being killed off the show. The demise of his character should not come as a complete surprise as he got into a physical confrontation with a powerful loan shark in the most recent episode.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS CANNOT BE HAPPENING NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NO HE WAS THE BEST CHARACTER D: D:
Personally, I didn’t mind the spoilers. But if someone ignored “Spoiler” in the title and started to read the article, the “If you don’t want to know, do not read further.” won’t do much since there’s a picture of Mike right underneath that sentence.
James is one of nicest, most down to earth guy in the business. He’s a far better actor than this show ever allowed him to be. I wish him the best in his next project and I’m sure that’ll come sooner than later.
Agreed. One of the nicest guys out there.
GO VOLS!
I hear this decision came AFTER Marc Cherry slapped Denton.
LMAO!! Exactly what I was thinking. Seriously. I’m still waiting for BRENDA STRONG (Mary Alice) to take him to court for killing her off in the very first episode!!!
LMAO!
He should’ve been killed off seasons ago. Worst. Actor. Ever.
No, not “ever.” Lol. He had his moments. But I do agree Denton was lacking in many areas. Waaaay too many to be a featured regular in a network show.
Personally I always felt Doug Savant to be unfairly overlooked. He is such a talented comic who handled the drama stuff equally well. I hope he finds other work asap. Wish they could make room on Modern Family!
So. 2005. To. Do. That.
What difference does it make if his character dies in the end? Doesn’t that happen in lots of novels, movies, operas? A good guy dies? In my opinion, this gives him a bit more importance.
Can we just kill off the whole show and not hear about this stupid crap anymore? Sick or reading news about this stupid show.
Good. His character has been boring as hell since the pilot.
Damn I was hoping it would be Susan who gets killed.
Nice thing is…they’re killing off the whole stupid show in May so it’s a win for many.
Not an original cast member. I think he joined in season 3 or 4?
James is an original cast member
Further proof that Cherry didn’t want to settle – “desperate” attempt to drum up buzz for DH during the last few weeks. If I followed the show, kind of meaningless with only six or eight episodes left.
this revelation just makes the whole trial feel like a shameless publicity stunt.
I thought for sure it was Vanessa Williams. Oh well, it’s just a few months shy of the finale. It’s a shame that it wasn’t planned better, I mean I don’t see how this creates story. It’s really too bad that there is no happy ending for mike and susan
I don’t know how long they “planned” it or not, but the way the season has been going, specially last week’s episode, it’s no surprise that he gets killed off. He’s been threatening and punching the loan shark that was screwing up with Rennee and Ben (worst character this season).
So it makes sense that this guy would come back and kill Mike, and again, somebody big usually dies at the end of a show like this one, and Mike, while not a huge character, his death would mean a lot to Susan, one of the lead characters of the show. Nice dramatic way to close her arc for the final episodes of the series.
It wouldn’t be an ABC show if they didn’t kill of one main character a season. From DH to Lost one a year.
If only it were Susan. The most painful character – ever
Of course it wouldn’t be Mrs. McCluskey. But when I think of the upcoming episode “Women and Death” how did Mike actually affected the life of the housewives? I can’t remember he interacted with Lynette in any episode or storyline. So how could he have changed or influenced her life or those of the others? The only thing he did for Gabrielle was something with their pipes when Carlos and she were broke. I hoped for Susan to get a happy end. The show started with her as a divorced woman and ends with her being a widow? How stupid is that?
DAMN IT! I read the thing thinking it was the spoiler from 2008 saying that Edie would be killed off since the link was sandwiched between the whole Sheridan trial news.
Well at least he’s getting killed off while they have what? 5 episodes left? It’s not nearly as bad as Sheridan being killed off.
Mike has been an awful character for a long long time. You knew something huge had to happen to one of them before the series finale, it was looking too pretty for all the characters.
