Disney CEO Bob Iger let the frog out of the bag at the company’s annual meeting in Kansas City today. “Somewhere in my mind I know that work is being done on a sequel,” he said, before stopping himself saying he didn’t know how much has been disclosed about a second ‘The Muppets‘ movie. Iger added, in response to a question, that design work is “just beginning” for the Avatar attraction planned for Animal Kingdom in Orlando — and “in all likelihood” it won’t open until 2015. He says the company is “working on some concepts” to introduce attractions involving Marvel characters. They’re also “kicking around ideas” to enhance the presence of Pirates Of The Caribbean and Cars at the parks. “It would be tough to do walk-around characters” for Cars, he said.

Of all things why a Cars anything in the parks? It wasn’t a good cartoon by any means. Avatar should be interesting
Because Cars is a billion dollar franchise. It is by FAR the biggest moneymaker in the Disney portfolio. Little boys adore Cars, even the sequel.
I have a five-year old and as crappy as Cars 2 was, the kids love it. They even love secondary characters like “Francesco”.
Cars is the number 1 merchandise seller for boys at Disney.
My sons are obsessed with Cars 2.
The movie was unwatchable. A 10 minute short to show off fx would have been plenty. Hey lemmings, still touting this crap.
Thank you.
I hope to god he is talking about Orlando’s park. You can’t walk ten feet at Disneyland without tripping over Cars, Toy Story or Pirates. It’s totally pervasive. As much as my heart it happy about a Muppet sequel because I LOVED this muppet movie the rest of this post made me die inside a little.
They should have a building with animatronic versions of the characters from Cars who talk to the kids. You’re welcome Disney.
As far as Marvel goes, curious to see what happens there since Universal already has the Marvel theme park.
I’m so glad Avatar is still a “go”. This is Disney’s opportunity to really raise the bar and do something different. If they do this right, this could be one of Imagineerings greatest acheivements.
