The pro-family advocacy group One Million Moms has apparently halted its ill-advised attempt to pressure JC Penney to drop comedienne and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres as its spokeswoman. The group’s director, Monica Cole, told the website OneNewsNow that her group has other fish to fry and is moving on, even though she still advocates they not shop there. I say, good for JC Penney, and I’ll make it a point to shop there. DeGeneres is a fine role model who had the courage to come out and be honest about her sexuality, and obviously a big part of that was to help teenagers facing the same struggle. DeGeneres has never been defined by her sexuality, in my view. The idea that a group of mothers could be that intolerant and spread such misguided hate-mongering is appalling in the 21st century. Is the sentiment symbolically that much different from the 1960s, when hatred and bigotry was directed to those with different skin color, and fire hoses and police dogs met protesters simply looking for some meaning to the phrase “all men are created equal?”

I don’t know Ellen, however I know she has a staff, outside reps and other handlers, any of whom would have this firsthand experience and each of whom would be fired for saying such things publicly.

The only thing I would in this story is change the line “The pro-family advocacy group” to “The pro-hate advocacy group.” That’s a more accurate description as One Million Moms is certainly not “pro-family,” especially if your family includes someone who is gay.

Ellen’s audience is much bigger than this group and they realized they were wasting their time and energy so they gave up. Ellen must have at least five million people who watch her show every day. If anyone knows her real ratings numbers post them here I’m just guessing.
Ellen has barely 3 million viewers daily and her ratings are below average, and always have been. She barely hits a 1.6. Hardly a superstar of daytime TV.
All of you who are shocked that this could have happened in the first place, or about any of the attacks on women’s rights occurring in legislatures across the country, should read up on their history. How well would the entertainment industry have fared in the Dark Ages? Who is trying to legislate the Dark Ages upon our fair country founded in the name of freedom and equal rights for all?

Degeneres is a zero talent who has ONLY been defined by her sexuality. Nothing about her even remotely registers. She’s a failed comedian, a failed sitcom star, and a mediocre daytime personality.
