EXCLUSIVE: Greg Erb and Jason Oremland have been hired to rewrite Cryptozoologists for New Line, with Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo producing along with Tripp Vinson.
Originally written by David Gilcreast, the film is in the vein of Men In Black meets Ghostbusters. When frequent sightings of storied mythological creatures start occurring around San Francisco, a skeptic professor and his estranged cryptozoologist brother must band together to save the city. Flynn most recently produced Journey 2: The Mysterious Island for New Line, a film that is closing in on the $300 million gross mark worldwide. Cyptozoologists also has franchise aspirations.
The scribes most recently adapted their graphic novel The Return Of King Doug for DreamWorks, with Ben Stiller attached and they were writers on the Oscar-nominated The Princess And The Frog for Disney. The scribes are repped by UTA, The Gotham Group and SMGSB.

i love their ridiculous portraits against a soft focus wood background!!!
…and those tans are fantastic, too!
AHAHAHAHHAA!
Two more middle-aged white male writers score a writing deal. To Beau Flynn and peeps of FlynnPictureCo, how many diversity/women writers did you consider for the job?
Yeah when women of any color sacrifice stabile careers and put off having children and wait tables well into their 30s to pursue screenwriting in the same numbers as white males, they can complain about not getting gigs in their 40s.
What this article isn’t showing are the thousands of white males in their late 30s living in poverty because they’re still chasing the screenwriting chimera. What this article isn’t showing are the thousands of women who wizened up earlier and are now enjoying lovely careers and families.
Ah, Rick Santorum speaks.
You’re right Lisa, it’s so misogynistic to point out that women are too smart to let themselves end up waiting tables at age 42 waiting for their big screenwriting break, which is what happens to the vast majority of male screenwriters who’ve put their actual lives on hold chasing the brass ring.
Yes, it IS misogynistic–and ignorant–to assume that women aren’t also ambitious and willing to sacrifice for their ambitions.
There are plenty of us willing to put in the hard work and go through years of poverty to try to make it. But we as writers, directors, actors, and audience members, suffer from a male-dominated industry that wants to tell us how we think and feel. Your letter is a perfect example of what we’re up against.
Thank you, Kay! Well said!
Come on Elia. Why shake up the status quo? Why offer any type of proposition that would get people to think differently? That’s not Hollywood, baby.
Movie sounds tight – Future Kings of LA?
“Cryptozoologists” might be too much for the average movie goer to decipher. it will probably get a title change to something like trite like “Mysterious Creatures” or “Monster Hunters”
Fantastic get for Beau and Tripp. Greg and Jason are two of the funniest writers working in the business. Can’t wait to read the script and see the movie. Congrats!
Yes to that. Jason and Greg are awesome and everyone else on this comment thread might want to eat a snack or lie down or something. Congratulations to you, scribes!
Why are so many writers needed for this movie? How hard can it be?
Are none of these previous drafts worth making? Oh right this is New Line.

New Line should hire a woman to rewrite it. She might get it fixed this time. Would love to see how many women in the last five years New Line has hired. I would guess none.
