EXCLUSIVE: In his first series regular role since ER, Anthony Edwards has signed on as the lead in ABC’s drama pilot Zero Hour. The ABC Studios project, written and executive produced by Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring, centers on Hank Foley (Edwards) who, after spending 20 years as the editor of Modern Skeptics magazine, becomes involved in one the most compelling conspiracies in human history when his wife is kidnapped.

Go Watch ZODIAC. Such a good supporting role in that movie…
Good pilot. Here’s to hoping ABC decides to take a chance on some new series and give The River and GCB the boot.
The River’s a goner based on the ratings. Cougar Town, too.
What’s with all the pilots that are tough to imagine lasting several seasons? The plot sounds perfect for a limited run.
I agree — the US needs to adopt more of a two season limited run on series like in the UK.
Less is always more. Always.
Nobody does miniseries anymore except HBO. The economics are tough.
Which doesn’t really answer the question of why broadcast and basic cable keep greenlighting premises that don’t have several years in them, if that’s what they’d ideally like to see happen.
Latest example, Awake. Fun premise, very intriguing, but I can’t see it lasting more than 10-12 eps before it wears out its welcome.
Zero Hour sounds way too much like warmed-over X-Files, but without Duchovney and Anderson’s charisma to carry the show (plus, back then it was all reasonably fresh). Even if it goes to series, what’s the point? Cancellation in 3…2…
With those ratings, The River and GCB will be given the boot, never fear.
I, along with quite a bunch of other hopefuls, auditioned for the lead in this show two weeks ago. Knew I wasn’t going to get it, as the job was always going to go to a name actor… Also, everyone they brought it were all way too young, Anthony Edwards is age appropriate for the role.
That’s happening a lot this year, lots of big veteran names being cast in new pilots. Probably a desperate attempt to lock in an audience right away rather than see a repeat of what’s been happening all over the place: anemic premiere ratings followed by a death spiral.
Anyway, it’s probably good you didn’t get the gig, this one has cancellation written all over it, big name or no.

Even if the show didn’t get picked up, we all would have killed to land the job. Networks and casting directors do have other shows, and it’s nice to be on a short list. Starring in a pilot puts you quite a few paces ahead of a lot of other people in this town.
I don’t think the networks are casting names because it’s a desperate grab for audience share… There are just not enough jobs going around so really it’s a buyer’s market, the networks have their pick of the litter so why not cast a name since there are a ton of them available? Also, we’ve sort of moved the goal posts too… Having a big name actor doesn’t guarantee you an audience share, but not having a big name almost guarantees you won’t… If the show was any good, don’t you think they could have gotten a name? The only ones who seem to get away with casting unknowns are the CW or CW-esque young adult type shows like “Revenge”.
Yep-Knew it when I got the audition-Glad it went to someone who will do it justice!
Is Anthony Edwards playing a character based on Matt Drudge, or is that just the look he’s going for in that picture?
Gotcha!!!!
Love the show watched it on a survey want to see more.
I also watched in on a survey, very interested in seeing more. I hope it makes it and will be waiting for more info
Just watched episode. Very good. Can’t wait to see more.
WHAT HAPPENED, I THOUGHT THE SERIES WAS A GO AND HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE 2ND PART? IS IT OR ISN’T IT A GO. ANYTHING HAS GOT TO BE BETTER THEN ALL THE SH REALITY PROGRAMMING THAT WE ARE SUBJECTED TOO. WE SPEND ALL THIS MONEY FOR CRAP PROGRAMS WITH NO STORY LINE OR ADVENTURE.
I think ABC should survey the age groups 50 – 70. All those mini series were great. I thought the network was FINALLY doing something smart by creating short term shows that would end after the story line was fulfilled. Missing was a perfect example so was Last Resort. Lets get someone to figure out how to stop all these reality shows like Wipeout! Wipeout is fun to watch on occasion when there isn’t anything else of substance on, but not a steady diet of it!!! You can only watch people falling in water for so long before it gets STUPID! Tell the higher ups at ABC to get their thinking caps on and get some goods shows on. Besides aren’t you the ones who cancelled the soaps?!!! Maybe there should be a shake up and hire new people that make the decisions at ABC!!!
