Here is the first image of AnnaSophia Robb, star of the CW pilot The Carrie Diaries, as young Carrie Bradshaw. The project, from Warner Bros TV and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, is based on Candace Bushnell’s novel, a prequel to her best-seller Sex And The City that was adapted into the iconic HBO series. It chronicles Carrie’s (Robb) coming of age in the 1980s when she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan. It’s clear she already has her eclectic fashion style and sports her trademark curls too.

Carrie Diaries is written/executive produced by Sex And The City alum Amy B. Harris who now works for another series about young Manhattan fashionistas, Schwartz/Savage’s Gossip Girl on the CW. “Having been a part of the Sex and the City series, I felt such an honor and responsibility to the fans of the show to find someone who embodied the spirit of Manhattan’s favorite ‘It’ girl,” Harris said. “When AnnaSophia Robb walked into the room, we knew we had found her. Her grace, intelligence, sense of fun and her empathetic nature make her the perfect girl to bring our young Carrie to life. The fact that she loves a gorgeous pair of heels doesn’t hurt either.” Robb also has gotten thumbs-up from the actress who first brought the Carrie Bradshaw character to the screen, Sarah Jessica Parker, who sent Robb a nice note. Fashion was a big part of Sex And The City and will take center stage in Carrie Diaries too. The offshoot is paying homage to the original series by hiring Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Daman who cut his teeth as an assistant costume designer on Sex and the City. “It’s a rare invitation to dress a character whose reputation truly precedes her,” He said. “Having played a hand in designing for the Carrie we know and love, I am honored to be chosen to carry the torch — to illuminate the woman we know by discovering the young lady she was.”

Silvercup’s rooftop looks swell this time of year.
Good eye. That’s exactly where she is.
A Sex and the City with teenagers? Sick. Why not just call it “Under-Age Sex and the City”?
if this is a prequel then where is the WTC from behind? also the girl is waaaaaaay too pretty to be a young SJP.
Good eye re: WTC. They had better fix that in Post. But SJP was very hot in her youth. See “Honeymoon In Vegas” as proof.
Sex and the City built a following on HBO, because cable permits the title to actually reflect the content….SEX in the City.
Did some one at CW miss this memo?
You clearly don’t watch The CW…
Correct. There is too much good stuff other places so CW is not on my list other than Nikita.
What have I been missing, Anonymous…?
While there may be no full frontal nudity, there is a lot of sex (and exposed skin) on The CW. (Case in point: The Vampire Diaries.)
Super cute!
Making a kid dress like that walking fashion disaster is cruelty to children, if you ask me.
(Yeah, not a big SatC fan here, though I was smack in the middle of its target demographic.)
You DO realize that this series of books and purportedly the television series all take place in the EARLY 80′s, right? That’s why you think this is a fashion mishap. However, I can almost categorically guarantee all of these will be prevalent trends once again if this show has a modicum of popularity.
She looks more like a young Felicity… but why not, that show worked when WB was around.
good to know that this character always had a terrible fashion sense and it wasn’t something she discovered as she got older.
Yikes!
Shouldn’t they have picked a (butter) face>?
There’s a kind of sadness in this photo: the overdressed girl trying to act like she’s older than she is in the image-conscious 1980s. I doubt the show will ever strike that tone, but it’s nice that the image can evoke that response.
OK the show is called “THE CARRIE DIARIES” not “Sex and the City With Teenagers.”
You people need to dial back the fake outrage.
PS: I liked this project back when it was called “Square Pegs.”
WOW! Someone who remembers “Square Pegs,” thought I was the only one.
Whoa, cute girl. So when does she develop the horse face?
Sorry, I’ve lost interest in all these characters. After how many years on HBO, then syndication, the two big-screen adaptations (one of which REALLY sucked), the franchise is milked out. Just call it Gossip Girl 2 and be done with it.
Her shoes are too big for her feet. And Carrie was more of a fashion risk taker as the series got popular and got more money for it’s wardrobe budget. Watch the earlier episodes and you will see all 4 ladies dressed very normal.
with all do respect, like someone else wrote…my first thought this girl is too pretty to be Carrie. The beauty of SJP has always been her allure to men (on the show) not working on the beauty angle…and this just seems to say i’m pretty..so wrong …
Yes, agreed it is really not cruel to say that this girl is too conventionally “pretty” to be teen Carrie…at this age, she would have much more awkward (didn’t these people SEE Square Pegs). But seriously, that is how Carrie developed her “character,” by NOT being a bland, pretty face…and btw, I think SJP is lovely.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that some of you have not read the book and therefore probably don’t know that ‘The Carrie Diaries’ is more focused on Carrie being a teenager BEFORE moving to New York and also her journey to the big apple. The book is based on a high school senior, so if there is some sexual content then that’s understandable. Because let’s be honest, we all remember how we and other people were our senior year.
Even by 80s standards, most teens did not dress like that.
We know when Carrie stopped chain smoking – I could almost smell the difference through my TV set! (Though it wasn’t soon enough to stop Carrie’s resulting rapid aging). Will we get to see when Carrie started smoking? Not sure how the canonical backstory weighs in on this one.
And she’s already a materialistic whore. Well done, everybody.
Does every new show have to be for vapid women and equally vapid gay men? Are they the only people that watch TV now?
Schwartz/Savage’s fake dynasty is right. If we’re lucky we will get half a season worth of good episodes followed by years of crap. I’ve learned my lesson from The OC and Gossip Girl.
This show is gunna be worth watching for 1 reason ANNASOPHIA ROBB! She is stunning. I aint ever watch sex and the city but ima deffinatly watch this. She need to hit me up lol
