The Today show’s interview with Charlie Sheen this morning offered first glimpse at his new sitcom, FX’s Anger Management, which premieres June 28. Two images from the set of the show flashed during the interview: one featuring Sheen, who plays a troubled anger management therapist, and Selma Blair, who plays his own therapist; and one with Sheen and Shawnee Smith, who plays his ex-wife, in a kitchen setting. During the interview, Sheen said he had planned to do a documentary chronicling his meltdown last spring with video material from his Torpedo Of Truth tour and the events that preceded it but ruled against it after finding the footage “cringeable.”
Sheen said “I didn’t recognize part of who that was,” adding that the material could make for “a nice case study one day.”
Sheen admitted he still has “a little bit of bitterness” toward the show that fired him, Two And A Half Men. He didn’t launch a full-blown insult on the CBS sitcom as he recently did (Sheen ended up apologizing to his replacement Ashton Kutcher), opting for a more subtle jab. “I just wish they’d taken better care of the child left behind,” he said. As for Men bringing back his character as a ghost played by Kathy Bates, “I was honored, that’s not supposed to be an insult, they missed.”
Sheen revealed that he doesn’t have to undergo random drug testing on Anger Management “unless something obvious happens, I come in covered in blood, somebody else’s blood,” but admitted that there is a standard morals clause in his contract. “They’re getting pretty serious about it,” he said. “There’s so much money at stake, I don’t blame them.” Sheen also said that he gave the cast and crew assurances that he would be on his best behavior in a comedic speech on the first day of shooting. “So far eight days (on Anger Management) was more fun than eight years (on Men), he said. My favorite exchange from Matt Lauer’s interview:
Lauer: “Is it weird to have looked back and experience what seems like an out-of-body experience?”
Sheen: “Yeah, yeah. I just wish it was somebody else’s body.” Here is the full interview:

What a mess.
what about you riley ? EYEROLLLLLLLL
I can’t stop watching two and half men. It’s the best comedy on TV. But I have to say Two broke girls is also very funny. Looking forward to your new series in June. Like they say don’t give up the ship. “Sell it”.
You sound like the perfect viewer for Anger Management. You somehow like Two and a Half Men and Two Broke Girls.
You have very low standards
because you know how will be Anger Management Will ?! major sarcasm
that’s not a jab at 2 1/2 men… it’s just reality. we all have ears and eyes. the show is embarrassing. it’s true.
It’s no better or worse now than it ever was.
it is worse, end of story.
you have no sense of taste if you can’t detect a difference…
You have no sense of taste if you watch Two and a Half Men.
Guaranteed Charlie is on best behavior for the first 60-70 episodes.
When they get into the zone for the final season, watch his demeanor change.
Would FX really cancel the show so close the syndication? Would Lionsgate close the door on him (and potentially his career) if he lapsed in 2014?
We shall see…
you base this on??? what???? one show he did for 8 seasons where he was obviously not happy… brilliant deduction… one thing happens therefore it will happen every single time… genius
Did he say the 2AAHM crew brought his character back as a fat old woman ghost because they “miss” him? If that was the case, did they ask him back?
He said they did that to piss him off but to him it was an honor (because the character is played by the talented Kathy Bates), so the whole thing was a miss.
Matt Lauer has got to be the worst interviewer.
No, Ann Curry is, hands down!
Jay Leno is worse. And Carson Daley. Looks NBC has all of ‘em!
Charlie Sheen is the patron saint of Hwood.
I like Charlie Sheen. I have loved much of his work over his career and wish him only the best. He doesn’t look good in this interview, but still, I found myself laughing at some of his comments. He’s a witty guy at times and I’m rooting for him. In terms of Two and a Half Men, I have to be honest. The show was running out of steam in the last couple of seasons Charlie was on it. It’s much worse now. Part of it is the hideous writing and part of it is the total lack of chemistry between Cryer and Kutcher, and the fact that almost every episode either mentions Charlie Harper or flat out has him as the backdrop. Two and a Half Men truly hasn’t moved on from Sheen even now, the actors are now phoning it in and holding out for big money. It was a blessing in disguise for Sheen to now move on/forward, and I wish the very talented Jon Cryer would also call it a day and move on from that sinking ship. It’s simply not funny anymore.
Yeah, he’s made a complete 360.
Is this show some variation of “In Treatment”?
Matt Lauer IS the new Ron Burgundy
I am really curious about this new show, i will watch.
As for the interview, Sheen seems above all nervous and of course press (and sad troll detractors) will use it to discredit him..but actually Charlie Sheen has always been awkward on tv interviews, often he uses his wit to past that but still he stays nervous and it can make the interview ‘weird’to the usual viewer..to me it is just more interesting than the usual PC boring stuff with actors coached by their ‘team’, it is more an interview with artists, more candid and raw.
I am really disapointed in Lauer, his questions are rude, it is almost like he wants Charlie to apologize…pathetic, of course Charlie will do it in order to work again, it would be me i would have told Lauer to fuck off ‘bien comme il faut’ !!
p.s: i am french so the grammar is awful i know.
This american press is disgusting.
That’s how he treats all of his interviews… combatively. Remember Lauer vs Cruise? Forget Today, GMA is so much better.
And Lauer versus Kanye.
I MUCH prefer GMA to Today.
Wow. It ain’t over yet. Charlie, ya gotta lay off the candy. It never, never ends well, for anybody.
I will only watch Charlie’s show is Denise Richards and the cute kids are in it, and Brooke and the cute kids are in it…It should be a FAMILY project…He is a great dad, loves his kids and they need to grow up seeing what “daddy” does for a living, and understand the WORK and not the Celeb aspect of it all…..And by the way, Ashton sucks…no one can replace Sheen, they should have just continued without him….change the name to 1.5men…Ashton’s NO WAY worth a million a week…..the cast could have received an EMMY for comedy ensemble…..Ashton ruined the show….D -…at best.
Good luck to you on that cable channel that no one watches. And remember how you were getting $40 millions per years on CBS. Loser….
Dude, GET A LIFE. You are talking about money, well, he’s still a millionaire, more than ever.
Now who’s the Loser…?
You try rebuilding your life after losing your job — all in the middle of a nervous breakdown — THEN you get to judge Charlie. And the ponderous, obvious, try-to-have-it-both-ways double speak answers from Les and CBS…these things do happen for a reason.
Good luck Charlie! 2 and a half men sucks without you.
I watched Two and a half men to see how they killed off Charlie, the show totally sucks without him, Charlie Sheen was able to pull off the off color situations with it not being so dirty, I watched the new show once and it is just dirty, they can’t pull off those comments like Charlie Sheen does. There is no chemistry. Ashton Kutcher was a poor choice, he can’t act, but there is no one that can replace Charlie Sheen anyway in my opinion, they should just cancel the show. I for one am not a fan of reality shows, I don’t consider watching shows like this low intelligence like someone implied. These shows help some of us escape reality of our lives and provide us with entertainment. I wish Charlie Sheen the best and thanks to Charlie for providing us with entertainment. I pray he stays well. Instead of people insulting him, think of his father Martin Sheen who worries about his son, that is the real world. Can’t wait for the new show with Charlie Sheen.
Go Sheen go! Looking forward to your new show. Two and half men sucks without you!
I have always been a fan of Charlie Sheen. He’s always been talented in both comedy and drama. Charlie Sheen is a great actor, period; a natural. Anyone who says otherwise, doesn’t have a clue about acting.
It’s been sad to see him go through his addictions, particularly worrisome this last year but he’s pulled himself out of it and is starting again.
I loved him as Charlie Harper on Two and A Half Men, no one else could have played that character and made him so endearing other than Sheen. You have to have a sense of humor, timing and sense to catch all the innuendo that was written on the show. Sheen, Cryer, Taylor, Lynskey, Farrell and Jones played so well off each other. The show is entirely different without him, the chemistry between the actors in not there. I haven’t watched the new show for a while and while I like Ashton Kutcher it’s just not the same show.
I think Sheen eventually got tired of doing the show, he’s great on t.v. but I would love to see him in the movies again. I wish him the best, I’m rooting for him with Anger Management and I will definitely watch this. GOOD LUCK CHARLIE
Charlie Sheen will prevail again. Charlie, do you know how good you have it. Only in Hollywood would you continue to be given opportunities to make money with your past. Your fans and family are all being you. Your Dad, especially has been by your side. He has as you obviously know, had health problems. Don’t add to his strees. Best of luck.
I had never watched 2 1/2 men BEFORE it was cancelled,
When I did catch a show, after charlie sheens’ “meltdown”, I could not believe how funny it was! The whole relationship thing with his mother and brother…is real! A sign of the times. How many people, that are idiots, drunks, addicts etc., have high paying jobs all over the world, while the majority are floundering? The language is real, the feelings and situations are real, and so are the events in each of our lives whether we are mailmen, grocery clerks or actors…….they just get more coverage. I don’t know about the producers of the show, but I’m sure they have their own baggage too! They just haven’t had their meltdown, yet.
I don’t like kutcher in the new show, could be I just don’t like him though. I’ve never seen any depth in him whatsoever, in any part he has been in. Charlie Sheen was, and is the show. So now he’s not on it…but he’s IN it…all the time. The other actors in the show NEED to move forward, as soon as possible, to not let it be a sinking ship for them, they are all terrific! I belive that Kutcher is headed for his own meltdown very soon. Maybe he should be thinking about moving forward too,(I was tempted to say, “UNDER A BUS”), but didn’t want to sound like I didn’t like him. Really, the show is a part of history now, no one would ever be able to duplicate Charlie Sheen in his role…so don’t try. Good luck to Charlie in his new show! I hope he hits it out of the park!
I am glad Charlie is moving on. Can’t wait to see the new show. Two and a half men is not there without Charlie. I don’t watch it. I hope Jon comes out ok. Maybe he can join Charlie on his new show.
I am very glad to see Charlie Sheen has bounced back from his trip to the moon and being fired from 2 1/2 men, when honestly he did make the entire show. It still has it’s funny moments but who expected it to be the same. Ashton and Charlie are two different actors and anyone who expected 2 1/2 men to be the same as it was, is off base. What Kutcher does with the show now, it is what it is. I am looking forward to watching Anger Management and it just goes to show that Charlie Sheen’s talk of bi-winning happens to be true with him. In fact, this new show is proof that Sheen is where the money’s at as far as bringing in views and ratings.
Go Charlie Go !!!!!
