SHOCKER! Chris Nolan’s Agent Dan Aloni Fired From CAA: Chris Nolan Exits CAA; Will Follow Agent Dan Aloni Wherever He Goes
EXCLUSIVE: Two days after his shocking firing from CAA, top motion picture lit agent Dan Aloni has joined rival WME as a partner in its motion picture department. It has not been determined yet which clients will follow Aloni to WME, but the agent’s highest-profile client, director Chris Nolan, had made it clear he would follow him wherever he goes. Throughout his career, Aloni also has worked with Jim Carrey, David Dobkin, Michel Gondry, David Goyer, Mandeville Films, Mike Meyers, Neil Moritz, Dean Parisot, Jay Roach, Chuck Roven and Tom Shadyac. Aloni spent the last 7 years at CAA. Before that, he was at UTA for 11 years.

Wonder what they’re paying him. I guess probably a smaller salary with a bigger stake in the co.
Say what you will about the guy, looks like he’s worked with some amazing clients.
Wow.
Sending his resume to deadline paid off.
I wonder why he was fired.
probably for talking on the phone with Ari Emmanuel brokering this deal before he got fired.
My old lit agent at UTA used to practically pee his pants when his assistant said Aloni was on the phone. I repeated the anecdote to Aloni one night at Dan Tana’s when I was introduced to him and he said “Good.”. Him and Phil Raskind in the same lit meeting will be a cage match.
why did he get fired—gabler?
So obviously the laughable CAA spin about Aloni not fitting their agency culture was lame transparent attempt to avoid truth: Dan the Man jumping with major clients to WME cause he couldn’t take any more of the miserable deathstar atmosphere of CAA. Seismic shift here, with WME’s motion picture lit department now clearly superior to CAA.
Agree about the Death Star atmosphere at CAA. They were so dominant for so long that their residual arrogance often makes things quite difficult to work around when negotiating the terms of a deal. The WME guys can drive a hard bargain but they’re better at it, everyone feels better once the particulars are hammered out. The WME guys also seem younger and hungrier, more focused on kicking ass for their clients and less on maintaining the agency ‘image’.
They’re just nicer which is really starting to matter in this town. Shocking I know.
You know I have to completely agree. I am receiving a TON of help putting a feature together from WME even though one of the writers is a reasonably high profile CAA client. WME is simply motivated and hungry. CAA…not so much. Add in a heaping dose of arrogance at CAA and, well, looks like the merger is really paying off.
Looks like that Ovitzian crap is over. It may have worked once but now looks so 20th Century. Remember when everyone looked to Japanese business techniques as the way of the future? Well guess who’s economy is still at zero growth… WME is building their own way and so long as that translates into actual work for their clients vs. the image for their agency, we’ll all take their “arrogance” any day! CAA is starting to look like hubris.
What possible difference could it make which lit department is “superior,” if both are thriving, making movies, and making money? Superior by what metric, and whose measure? Or, to put it more simply, what’s your point?
Aloni clearly seems to everyone to fit better at WME than CAA and that adding his client list is a substantial gain. Adding this type of talent, ambition and aggression to WME sounds like throwing gas on the fire. Hard to believe it stops here.
He’s a great agent with great clients.
The kid looks like bill shatner
This guy looks like Hank Hill from King of the HIll.
Nice, very nice.
From his picture I hope his expense account is small, those chins need to go.
Well, aren’t you all about the important things?
No way. I’d rather fatten those skinny guys with the hungry faces and the nervous tic from their hours on the stairmaster.
Nah, he’s way more effective as a Fat Cat.
These motion picture Agents do not make the money…Dan’s bookings are about 15 million a year…big deal..that’s $1.5 million in commission..who cares..It is all puff…Nolan is no big financial deal…say he makes 10 million every 2 years.
You believe Dan Aloni makes only $1.5 million a year? Hahahahahahahahaha.
caa brought him over for 4 mil per…he probably didnt get a raise, but 1.5? come on…dont ust make up numbers.
you think nolan makes 10 million every 2 years!? your crazy, he made 71 million in 2010 off inception. Aloni’s probably taking in about 8-10 million a year now that he’s a partner. he probaly makes 4 -5mill off nolan alone plus salary, bonus and his other clients.
When Chris Nolan leaves him he will fade into the background !
Dan the dark side no longer could take. The force is awakening in this one it is.
good for CAA for getting rid of the garbage, regardless if they end up losing a big piece of talent. CAA is a class act all the way and this sends a clear message to the town and especially their competitors–their internal cohesiveness is far more important than one or two clients (not matter how big they are). Dan Aloni is a bad apple who will poison the well. WME is the perfect place for this guy and they deserve each other. He is not worthy of a place like CAA is the bottom line. So long.
CAA a class act? Have you ever worked there? You should see the way employees are treated and no the powers that be are not transparent. Everyone from human resources to some of their department heads are bad apples that have poisoned that place for years and no one has done anything about it. Once the current partners step aside the ship will sink.
Have you every been inside CAA…it Looks and feels like a mortuary. UGH!
It’s my least favorite place to take a meeting. It’s like walking into a tomb and everyone takes themselves very, very seriously. Saw what you will about the Endeavor guys, at least they focus on maximizing the deal, on the bottom line, instead of the “image” and “culture” of the agency.
Hollywood is movies!
The fat pockets right above my hips disgust me.
You could sort of tell that’s what went down. C.A.A. got wind of his talking to W.M.E. They abruptly cut to the chase which they probably knew they already lost. I’ll bet that was quite a meeting however brief it probably was.
You win the prize for best comment.
Or as Hank would exclaim: “THE AUDACITY!!!”
CAA may end up doing the physically impossible: biting into their own a** over the dumb decision to fire this guy.
Let’s see when the guy who was in charge for firing him gets fired.
That’s corporate culture! You need a bottle of wine to understand it (or shall I say: a punchline of coke? )
Hell yes now this is what I mean by WINNING!
CAA is WINNING! They never lose they only WIN!
I wonder if Aloni would consider repping me?
CAA got one hell of a deal… Got rid of the cancer, but keeping the commissions… WME is becoming the second-pickings chop shop.
WME now reps Chris Nolan. End of story. Sorry CAA trainee.
I know him and have worked with him. He can be difficult but so are many talented people. I still think long term he goes into management and production. He is a great piece of talent.
No, no, no. Reps and executives are not “talented.” The good ones are “smart” and “work hard” and “fight for their clients” and have “great taste.”
The people to whom the word “talent” applies are writers and directors and actors.
Carry on.
Well said.
Please explain this to me.
They were afraid of him talking to another agency so they fired him?
Why?
Isn’t that like I’m afraid of losing something so I throw it away so I won’t be afraid anymore.
Also, is it just me, or is Hollywood all about everything else but making movies.
Hmmmm……
They are all at the ass end of the Ship of Fools. Down with all agents their like!
Yah, agents are meaningless. That’s why Chris Nolan will follow his wherever he goes. Because, like, agents do nothing.
