Pre-historic drama Terra Nova appears headed to the history books. After two weeks of negotiations, Netflix and Terra Nova producer 20th Century Fox TV could not come to terms on a deal to continue the series on the video streaming service. While 20th TV is not throwing in the towel quite yet as it is not releasing the actors, there is no other viable suitor at this time and the chances of keeping the show alive following Fox’s cancellation earlier this month appear minimal. 20th TV has done it before with Family Guy, Futurama and Arrested Development, which were all resurrected years after being cancelled, but given the elaborate sets required by Terra Nova, which takes place 85 million years in the past, that possibility appears unrealistic. Three of the show’s cast members have already booked new series gigs: star Jason O’Mara co-stars in CBS’ Ralph Lamb drama pilot, Allison Miller in NBC’s Matthew Perry-starring comedy Go On, and previously released Christine Adams in the ABC drama pilot Americana. Along with Terra Nova, Netflix had been looking at another soon-to-be-canceled freshman drama, ABC’s The River.

Another “L” for Braga. So… What new series will he be Exxoning in the Fall?
It’s funny that the flop shows Braga ran share the name of 2 very bad Star Trek episodes: “Threshold” & “Terra Nova”. He even co-wrote those 2 Episodes.
I guess he did not see the omen …
I love Stephen Lang tho, hoped they’d find a way to bring back TN with Lang, even without the Swiss Family Robinson.
Braga doomed it though, how does he keep getting work?
SUCH a poorly written show. And I was so looking forward to it. I think Netflix is better off spending it’s money elsewhere.
Smart move by Netflix to forget it. NOT a good show.
Not a good show? Are you crazy? Just one of the best sci-fi series I have ever seen… I never got tired of it… And I think this show is a very good bet that its just being thrown away just because the story sounds to unrealistic which thing that makes it even more interesting. How can you possibly say that time travel is not real… it’s just beyond our technological reach just because with our current sources we cant produce enough energy to create a wormhole which is equivalent to a small supernova blast…
You’re expectations for quality television are set WAY too low, Rafael. And your grasp of physics is even lower.
anything fiction on television is unrealistic now days. One should not consider how realistic something is, but how much escapism one receives by viewing it.. I personally would rather watch sci-fi escapades across the universe or time than a bunch of cops breaking the law and beating up criminals, or people trying to lose weight, or watching yuppies living a house together. Snookie is way worse than Nathaniel Taylor. Just the fact that this show got cancelled, but shows like The Hills have enjoyed multiple seasons just goes to show how dumb american culture really is
Rafael you apparently haven’t seen many sci-fi series. Terra Nova was poorly directed and had no clear vision of where it was going. It deserves to be cancelled.
Wow. You need to see more sci fi series, if this is the “best” one you’ve ever seen. You’re in for a real treat, here is a very incomplete list of all the sci fi series ever made that are better than Terra Nova:
The original Star Trek, the original Twilight Zone, all the Star Trek spinoff series (DS9 was the best, but all of them were better than Terra Nova, even the much-derided Voyager), The X-Files, Bablyon 5, Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica, probably the original Battlestar too, Farscape, Firefly, Futurama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fringe, The Walking Dead and even short-lived abortive attempts like Invasion and Jericho.
Agreed. I watched the first show because I thought the premise had a lot of promise. Time travel. A new civilization. Engaging lead actors. What?!? A rebellious and headstrong teenage boy makes a bad choice and endangers himself and others? How many hundreds of shows have we seen with that plot? That said, if a dinosaur had eaten the kid in the first show I would have stuck around for the second.
least shocking tv news of the year….
This was NEVER a serious proposition, but rather a power play by Netflix to assert the health of its balance sheet/current position. Simply put, Netflix needs more bang for their buck than this overbudgeted, broadcast piece of garbage. It’s like Hulk Hogan shopping for a Ferarri, most people think he can afford one.
After they started sniffing around The River (another dog of a series that deserves cancellation), I started to get suspicious that Netflix was just kissing up to Spielberg by pretending to be interested in his crap, in the hopes of hooking up with him for a series that maybe isn’t crap? Or maybe Netflix just needs more powerful friends in Hollywood. Given their tribulations with HBO et al, that would be a smart move for them right now.
good thing, didn’t want to have to get netflix back just for Terra Nova, it’s an excellent show if you don’t mind the fact that boobs are not flying everywhere and people are not making out everywhere. other then the fact it doesn’t try to be an r-rated show on tv i think few people would have anything bad to say about the show, sadly the world is in such a rate of decay morally that it’ll never recover.
Oh, please. People weren’t expecting TERRA NOVA to be a for-mature-audiences show like THE WALKING DEAD or SONS OF ANARCHY. They were merely expecting it to be good.
That show had more the boobs than the audience could stand, running around on the ground and shooting at dinos. Better written and acted characters could have solved that problem.
Why would Netflix want such an expensive stinker? Why would anyone?
This poorly written turd deserves extinction just like the dinosaurs it co-starred! Such potential, such a disappointment!!!
Now Netflix can spend their money on bringing back Firefly. A boy can dream can’t he?!
Keep dreaming, daniel. Keep dreaming.
Sigh…
Bummer, but not a surprise.
Saves me from having to sign up with Netflix unless they pick up The River.
The dinosaurs looked so bad– like the got fired from the D-team at the discovery channel.
How was this stinker expensive? It couldn’t have been the pitiful visual effects!! Jason O Mara is like the angel of unemployment– Stay away from him if you like working!!
Jason is great… but isn’t lucky, I hope smth would change and his new projects will be on TV for a long time.
How could TN possibly have stunk so much? I mean, didn’t it have, like, 50 Executive Prodcers? Geniuses all!
Netflix, you’re so stupid. As stupid as FOX. Good luck
I am totally agree with you Jen Laurie ! They are *** :@
Who was behind this mess of a TV show? Oh, that’s right, the guy who killed off the Star Trek franchise with dreck called Star Trek: Enterprise. Hopefully it’s a long, long time before someone has enough nerve to buy your products.
a lot of people disagree with you Painful. It was a good show….a thousand times better than LOST
I hated Lost, but I’ll still disagree with this statement.
Terra Nova should sweep the razzies this year.
Yet Lost had a thousand times as many viewers. Go figgure.
Have you seen the fan re-edits of the Star Wars prequel trilogy? You know how some people took the time to delete Jar Jar Binks and the other really terrible parts of those movies, and then reassemble the pieces into something that’s really enjoyable? THAT is what could be done with the footage from Terra Nova: delete all the parts with the kids in it and repackage it all into a 2 or 3 hour movie about colonists going back to establish that base in the time of the dinosaurs.
Without the kids, it was a good show. They ruined it by focusing on the teenaged boy who couldn’t listen and who constantly endangered those around him by perpetually disobeying his parents.
Started off slow, but by the end I was really getting into TN. Any cancelled sci-fi show is a not a good thing people. There is an audience for it somewhere. Now The River is a different story, this odditie should have been done by Showtime – juice up the sex and gore and it would have been super cool.
Why don’t the people who do not like Terra Nova just not watch it and leave us Terra Nova fans alone to enjoy our show. I would not hurt any of you if netflix or any other station made another season or even several more seasons. No one makes you watch it and im sure there are plenty of shows out there that lots of people cant stand that you enjoy so why don’t you quit posting crappy comments so us Terra Nova fans can possibly have our favorite show back.
So Stephen Lang is still available, that’s a bit of good news. He’s the best thing about the show!
Although it was (really) uneven at times and focused way too much on the kids, I thought it picked up and the last two episodes were really great! It ended up being my favourite new series. Maybe they could revive it with a smaller cast and less producers?
TN’s storyline could be tweaked, and it could become a better show. 1st season was uneven, yes. But, it can easily change direction and be something people want to watch. I liked the show and I’m sad it didn’t get a second chance to prove itself.
Too bad about Terra Nova. I disagree with the people who say it wasn’t written well or a bad series.
I guess they are the kind that like alot of sex and violence or lame reality shows (how many more of those do we need?).
The Boss was right 57 channels and nothing on (except now it’s 200 channels and nothing on).
My wife isn’t a sci-fi buff and I am, but she really liked this one. We find one we can agree on and the imbesiles (sp) win out. Talk about the dumbing or numbing of America. Guess I should go back to reading a good book.
You know tv is some times all people have to take them out of there normal lives, to busy to read , this is there form of , so to speak (getting away). So when a show is canceled , its like abandonment to them. So they liked a show , they related to the characters better on one show than another. Terra nova was a good plot with characters that worked well with each other. I don’t know why you would get so far into show and then just drop it. Of course no one has made me a head executive yet. At least do the show right by ending it with a made for TV movie, show what was in the bad lands, don’t let this show go to the way side like so many others. Firefly is what terra nova needs to be , tell the story and let it go.
