American Idol‘s performance shows will remain two-hour-long for the rest of the season. Fox was planning to switch to 90-minute Idol performance episodes starting April 4, followed by new episodes of I Hate My Teenage Daughter. The freshman comedy, which has been doing poorly as part of Fox’s two-hour Tuesday comedy block, will now come off the schedule after its final Tuesday 8:30 PM airing. The remaining original episodes will air in the summer, likely after the show has already been canceled.

This is why you don’t greenlight a show based on its stars alone.
“I Hate My Teenage Daughter” is a really awful moniker and premise.
Wow Fox has had quite the rotten year in both comedy and drama. Their franchises are dropping like flies and NEW GIRL has been in a slow, steady decline for five months. Will be interesting to see what they run with in May.
Last night’s televised ejection of that kid from Idol was in especially poor taste–and you could tell the judges disliked the way it went down.
Why do they even bother with these promises to reduce Idol episodes below two hours? It’s been nine years of these promises and it always ends up a bloated two hour mess by April anyways, no matter what. Anyone who can read ratings knew that I Hate had no shot of ever getting an episode out of Idol.
Of COURSE they’ll continue with 2-hour infomercials, because FOX has NOTHING of interest to air. And the day I tune into the dreadful, manipulative nonsense that’s called I-Dull is the day I lose all respect for myself.
I’m soooo glad I quit Idol. Too much fluff and the judges are bland, bland, bland.
Hence the problem with FOX keeping the two-hour nightly block, instead of expanding it to three-hours when AI became a hit. The two-hours make sense because second hour (particularly 8:30 is huge for them), but they have not parlayed that recently to nourish other shows on their schedule. With 20%+ losses for AI, one wonders how much of a boost Touch will get. After all, AI has been hurt by TBBT and Touch will go up against up-and-comer POI and decent performer GA.
