EXCLUSIVE: Shoppers at malls owned by Taubman Centers will see something unusual beginning Wednesday. As part of an exclusive one-year partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the malls will have a wall with cover art and QR codes for many the studio’s home videos. People who want to buy the movie or TV show can download a smartphone app called Fox Movie Mall, available for both iPhones and Android devices. It will enable them to scan an image and go directly to a Web site to complete the purchase for a DVD or Blu-ray disc shipped free to their home. The studio will offer discounts and goodies such as games, trailers, and additional clips for people who use the app. Fox expects to reach as many as 60M people over the next four months with the mall wallscapes. As part of the deal with Taubman, Fox also will set up lounges in several malls that will have TVs featuring the studio’s family-friendly films. Fox will be making a big push for Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, scheduled for a March 27 video release. Other videos that will be part of the mall sales effort include X-Men: First Class, Alien, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Sons Of Anarchy, Rio, Gulliver’s Travels, and Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. Taubman malls that will have the Fox wallscapes include Beverly Center (Los Angeles), Dophin Mall (Miami), Fairlane Town Center (Dearborn, Mich.), Fair Oaks Mall (Fairfax, Va), The Mall at Short Hills (Short Hills, NJ), Stamford Town Center (Stamford, Conn.), and Westfarms Mall (Farmington, Conn.)

and half of america just fell asleep.
Sounds easy enough. What kind of discount?
What else can we do to complicate the home video market… nothing says success like confusing the shit of consumers.
So, you go to a mall to scan a QR Code so you can buy a product that gets sent to you at home in a couple of days? Why wouldn’t someone just stay home and buy it from Amazon?
Second announcement of the day showing the studios have zero clue what consumers want.
my kids looooove that movie
Yep, ignore the demands to get streaming services populated with more convoluted ways to get dvds no one wants.
Step 3. Profit.
so instead of going inside a mall and buying a dvd im supposed to scan this qr code and then wait to get it. are u insane?
This from the Industry that brought us Gili. If I’m at the freaking mall I can go into a store and buy the DVD right on the spot. Why am I going to waste my time to have it snail mailed to me.
Hollywood how about doing things in an easy and convenient way that the customer wants instead of these lame brain ideas that are only going to turn more people to finding more convenient alternatives?
